I feel its best to get a basic understanding of the tried and true methods, before one is to go off on experimenting with different growth mediums. As far as being more potent, I'm not the right guy to ask. Im sure this question has been asked many times.
In the top right, there is a SEARCH function, lots of information here.
Do some reading, friend!

Yes rye flour can be used in place of brf. Should make no difference.
Its pretty much agreed that potency is genetic and has little to nothing to do with the substrate that is fruited on. If you want consistently potent flushes, you will need to look to agar work and cloning or isolation.

I've done side by side comparisons with rye flour and brf.
I found no difference. One may be easier to find than the other, depending on where you live.
Pretty much any whole grain flour is fine. Whole grain is what you want. I suggest buying organic.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Spawning to Rye Berries is done all the time in grain teks.
If you're asking about why you can use grains to make pf cakes, I would imagine that the whole grains would not "cake" very well.
I've never tried it, however.

Mixing rye berries, instead of flour, with vermiculite often ends up screwing up the moisture content and/or causing invetro pinning.
Whole grains, like rye berries, really take a long time to sterilize unless you have a pressure cooker. It is not recommended to sterilize rye berries using the steam bath method. This is okay for flour.
If your talking about colonizing rye and then using it as spawn for spawning to bulk substrate, then that is pretty standard. But a PC is still recommended for the above reasons.
