Apparently Meningitis is a common side effect with Lyme disease. I only know this because I was recently diagnosed with both Both of the above SUCKand have made me unable to function normally; as well as physically miserable over the past week.
I have a couple questions for my fellow Shroomerites..... 1) has anyone else had either of the above ailments before?
IF SO: 2) How long before the throbbing in my neck and skull goes away? 3) What helped alleviate the pain, OR at least bring it down to a tolerable level?
Thanks,

I know pretty much nothing about your situation. I am sorry though. I can tell you however that in terms of anti-inflammatories the normal route is either NSAIDS or steroidal like dexamethasone and methylprednisolone. Your doc should be able to prescribe all of the above. The steroids cannot be used as needed but only once or twice every six months same as for sports injuries. The steroids are the most potent antiflammatories.

Thanks, I don't know why my doc hasn't proved me with these. I will contact him and see what the deal is.

I don't know should I be???
The Dr. just gave me Antibiotics and said: Go home, get plenty of rest, start taking these immediately, and go straight to the ER if the pain gets worse. I haven't done a whole lot of research on meningitis yet; I'm still trying read/absorb all the lyme disease info I was given. It's difficult cause my brain is cloudy like a horrible hangover (I haven't drank alcohol in months), my vision is blurred/fuzzy, and the base of my skull feels like someone hit it with a hammer, thus giving me a nasty headache.

Well, as long as you are getting antibiotics you are fine. I think usual treatment in the ER is just to administer IV antibiotics. Meningitis is scary, you can die in under 10 days from having it. A kid from my high school died of meningitis; it's a shame since he was a genius that scored a perfect score on his SAT's too. Only kid I ever knew that got a perfect score on that.

You are referring to meningococcal meningitis, a specific form of bacterial meningitis. His meningitis is either caused by the Lyme bacteria, or more likely, is an immune response to the bacteria.
Meningitis means swelling of the tissue that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. It can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, chemicals and probably other shit too.

Oh yeah. I totally forgot that. If the Lyme bacteria entered his brain though, he should be in the ICU.
I got the meningitis vaccine to enter the dorms so luckily I don't have to worry about that. Actually the reason all California universities started requiring mandatory meningitis vaccines was because of that student's death. He was at the dorms in USC when he died.

My niece got meningococcal meningitis when she was about a year old. She got to the hospital in time and everything came out fine, but that's the situation that kills kids in a few hours. I believe that is what happened to Hellen Keller that caused her to be deaf and blind.

That's really scary. If I was a parent would personally request a meningitis vaccine on a kid when it's time to get their Hep B and polio and tetanus vaccines.
I learned from a doctor that one tell-tale sign to know when somebody has meningitis is if they have difficulty turning their head. The head swells up to the point that it becomes difficult or painful to move your head. Of course diagnosing that way is much harder on infants than kids who are older.
OP, how difficult is it to move your neck and turn your head sideways?

Crytal G- Lyme affects the brain as a part of the disease. Being in a hospital won't specifically help the symptoms of Lyme at this point (except they have some awesome pain killers lol) as for my neck.... I HURTS LIKE HELL!!!! It is so stiff that its excruciatingly painful rotating my head in any direction other than up..... and the pain... it feels like somone took an ice-pick and started stabbing the area where my neck and skull meet. On a side note: I FINALLY got a couple hours of sleep last night thanks to a HEAVY Indica it was the first time the pain has been at a manageable level in 8 days.
Koods- You are correct; the Meningitis I have is cause by the Lyme Bacteria.

How long did it go untreated? It takes a while for the bacteria to migrate into the CNS. I didn't realize they had Lyme in ca.

I had Lyme over the summer and man, it hit me hard. I had quit smoking cigarettes for about a month and decided, hey lets go for a run.
Ran/jogged/walked about two miles and felt great.
Woke up the next morning and my entire body ached. My elbows hurt. My neck hurt. My knees hurt. My hands hurt. My jaw hurt.
I thought "damn, that must have been a good run."
But then the next day comes. I still hurt.
And the next day... I'm waking up in agony in the middle of the night sweating like a fucking dope sick junkie.
Well, what do you know, I get a huge fucking rash behind my knee. Try to treat it with some ringworm medication, nothing.
What's this? Another rash on my thigh? And another rash on my arm? And my shoulder? And my back? WTF is going on?
I went to play softball and the loud mothefucker on the team starts giving me shit about the huge, purple rash behind my knee. "YO, THAT LOOKS LIKE WHEN MY MOM GOT LYME, YOU SHOULD GET THAT SHIT CHECKED DUDE."
Went in to the doctor's office the next day. She had never seen rashes so drastic before. She called in another doctor and they prescribed me some antibiotics immediately. About a week later, the soreness went away. After the two week antibiotic regimen I was feeling way, way better. But the discoloration where the rashes were still remained.
I finally went and got a blood test because I was concerned about the rashes, and they showed that I was good to go.
I am suffering from some Post Lyme Disease Syndrome symptoms, but overall nothing major.
Good luck, it's not the end of the world.

Yeah I got infected with Lyme 2 times and only really got very sick the first time. THe second time was very similar to you. Bekind the knee and treated it as ringworm. Went to the doc for ringworm when it spread to other parts and they said no you have Lyme disease didn't even cross my mind even though I had it before and don't usually get ringworm.
The first time was scary. Really bad mindfuck fever with a fast onset. I don't even remember if I was very sore but I think I've been fairly lucky as far as joint damage and other long-term symtoms go. Not much to speak of.

I had Lyme's many years ago. I was in 7th grade at the time, so my memory of it isn't all that great. I didn't really notice anything until one day I was brushing my teeth, and I noticed that half of my face was paralyzed. This is a condition known as Bell's Palsy. I went to the doctor & had bloodwork done, which is how I was diagnosed. I had just entered the third stage, and was almost hospitalized. They put me on oral antibiotics, which eventually cleared it up. I remember extreme fatigue, and joint pain/inflammation. My knees swelled up to 5x their normal size. My elbows weren't much better. The antibiotics cleared it out, but every since I've issues with my left ear, and arthritic symptoms in my joints. The arthritis isn't always there...it acts up every so often. I lift weights, and usually every couple of months the joint pain spikes to a point where I need to take a week or two off. I use Aleve during flareups, which does a great job at relieving the pain. Good luck OP. Lyme's sucks, and it sounds like you have a worse case than I did.

My bf has had the same headache for almost a month straight. His left ear is bothering him bad. When the pain spikes for him he is sent screaming and crying in pain. They put him on Neurotin and some other crap. They told him to stay away from ibuprofen
I can only imagine you guys are going through complete hell

I went on doxycycline for a month after getting the bullseye rash from a tick bite. I didn't have any other symptoms, except the rash. Guess I got lucky.

My bfs meningitis may have come from West Nile virus.
We don't have confirming results for either problem, yet, but the neurologist says to him it sounds like meningitis.

Viva, I think your bf needs to stay as far away from nature as possible. On the other hand. It sounds like he has absolutely delicious blood.
