    #1913412 - 09/13/03 07:40 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

the big white one is a pine mushroom.. im in a hurry, going to the shroom shack to get some money for it! anyone know what the others are?? ill edit my post later with more details..

EDIT: Well, as soon as i walked into the mushroom depot an old guy told me i had a "black pine" and that it was worthless, but it was a pretty big one so it was still neat to find. i sort of thought it looked different from the pines around here usually... anyway, i added some more pictures, anyone know what kind of shroom has that really blue stem? when i picked the mushroom the stem was white, but it turned blue very quickly. you think that could be an active?

good matsutake find. although this si a fairly distinctive mushroom i hope that you made sure to confirm your id. are these often found without the annulus?
i can't comment on the others just yet. i'll be back on in a little bit if i get the time.

Interesting pics.

The third one looks like mastutake. As for the others, if I had to guess I'd probably put them in Cortinarius and Inocybe. Of course, spore prints should help decide them fairly quickly, along with the usual description stuff.

Happy mushrooming!

sooo none of them are active?

the 3rd one is th only possible matsutake (we call them pine mushrooms up here).. the guy at the mushroom shack said it was a 'black pine' which is worthless.. im not sure if that means its a true matsutake or not..

yeah, at least i got some good pics, my new camera is wicked!

If the third one is a matsutake, then it should have the characteristic odor - somewhat like cinnamon. If it lacks that odor, then it's not a mastutake. If it has it, there are 2 species in the US which are treated as mastutake, and a third which is the original Japanese species. All 3 are quite edible and worth eating (if you like the species - I know people who don't).

As far as the first one (the one whose stem turned color), try and see if you can get a better photo. That one shows the trees behind it better than the mushroom. Make sure you show us the underside of the cap. Also, make sure you get a spore print, and let us know what color it is.

Happy mushrooming!
