Adding an injection port to a spawn bag that has already been pressure cooked?
    #19133334 - 11/13/13 08:51 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hello all, I was just curious if anybody has ever adding an injection port to a spawn bag that has already been pressure cooked?  I couldn't find anything on the search function about it, so I figured I'd ask.

Also, whether this is possible or not is my main concern, but my secondary concern is what is the best way to add an injection port?  I have heard sanding it down before adding a glob of silicone to it and waiting 24 hours, while some say that just a piece of micropore tape before and after the injection is the best way.

Thanks for any input.

Sure, just toss some silicone on, give it 24 hours, and you should be good to go.

You could also inject straight through the bag and put non-breathable tape like electric tape over the hole.

I put some duct tape on there to strengthen the bag, wipe with alcohol then inject. Then cover with hot glue.

Works well.

Sorry to open an oldish thread but silicone doesn't stick to the bags before or after PCing, I've spent the last two days looking for how to make a port for the damn things and found nothing

Medical tape works well for this. Keeps bacteria out and the adhesive is thick and gummy so after injection the hole almost reseals itself. A little glue or tape over the hole would be good though,

Because you're not supposed to.  Inject right through the bag and then put clear tape such as shipping tape over the wound.

OK, will do. No worries about contamination? Oh and the 3m tape I tried using doesn't stick. At least not in my moist SAB. Is there another brand that works better? Martian said medical tape but there a half dozen different kinds, I know medipore tape can withstand pressure cooking, is there a cheaper alternative to that.... or just a clear tape that will actually stick to the bag when they have been wiped down with IPA?
