NOOB advice for Calea

I think i've thoroughly checked the forums and cannot find my answer. If by some chance I've overlooked or didn't completely exhaust the resources here, I ask that my request for information be respected and I not be flamed upon.
I received a seedling from WSS about a month ago and it was spindly upon receipt. Well, now, it is about 6" tall and quite slender with 11 leaves growing in clusters of 2 every couple of inches. My concern is that if it keeps growing like this and not bush out, it will topple over and possibly either bend or break the stem.
I thought about cutting it down to one of the mid nodes but thought I'd get the best advice from the group here. Is there any way to have this little guy bush out?
I thank you in advance,

I like this, very fitting for this place. Since so many people enjoy being a-holes here.
But as to your question, both of my caleas tend to grow all crazy spindly too, I have cut them back at least 4 times. New shoots have always returned quick and strong. This plant is fairly hardy when it comes to cutting.
I'd cut it back, and root the cuttting for another plant.
Also, an extra bit of info. It's important to let the soil dry out before watering again.

cutting back and more light will promote thicker, bushier growth. You can keep them well-watered. I have never found the need to let them dry out as long as it is not sopping wet. The bitter calea is more sensitive to drying out and tends to require more light to grow thicker.

Dear 1234G and WSS,
Thank you for the advice. How far down should I do the cut back? If I go mid way down as I had originally mentioned, won't that make it bushy at the mid part and I'll still be facing a slender stem?
OR
Should I cut it down to where the stem hits the dirt?

Pictures would help out a lot with that question.
But you could probably get away with cutting it midway, and re root the top half if you like. I'm pretty sure the stem should thicken up as it ages though.

No, you don;t want to cut it back fully. You want to leave at least a few inches and several healthy nodes so they can resume growth. It's possible for them to come back if you went to the ground, but it's also likely to kill it. I've had a few lose all the leaves and then come back liek that. But ultimately you want to leave some live growth. I agree with midway. You can try rooting the tops as well. The bitter clones are significantly harder to root than the non-bitter.
