Me and my buddy have been tripping for a little over 5 years on and off now, when we first started tripping we just took them because we wanted to and didn't really understand how spiritual and how meaningful they really are. 5 years have gone by and we now do them with an understanding on all the aspects, how to control the trip, meditate, and the most important thing in my mind is respecting the mushroom.
I'm just curious about what everyone thought when they first started tripping on mushrooms as to what they think/know now.

for me it was kind of the opposite. it started off spiritual from the very beginning. every one of my first dozen trips had that sacred element to them since i treated them like sacraments. then after my first 'heroic' dose (not on mushrooms) it was hard to get back to that and i ended up tripping for fun most of my trips, or just not as disciplined as I used to be with this stuff. I'm getting back there though and now that I have some lucy again I want to do some real personal exploration with it.

sometimes its great to go to school to just kick back and laugh with your friends.

My first time I was very curious about what 'tripping' was like. It was unexpectedly 'organic' in it's effects/process. I had this idea of tripping being like a poison and some synthetic unnatural visions. I did not read many trip reports before blasting off and am glad for it. I knew the LD50 going into it . I ate a bit more than half an ounce that first go. That was a blast and a half. I kept eating for several hours because my curiosity was not satisfied. It was eventually .
Some where during my first three trips (things get hazy...) I had the deep feeling that 'this is medicine/powerful/healing/potential'. I was determined to keep at them and keep eating to learn- I was lucky because I knew what they were doing - I would have stopped using them otherwise before I began to understand or get on any sort of comfort level with them. It took me many trips and much work sober to begin to work with them and to start to remember a lot of the thought content of the trips.
Now I have different types of trips I go on. Some for a little mood booster, some for interesting/therapeutic effects, some for heavy magic doing, some for completely tearing down my model of the world and what I think I know. The latter are not frequent but the former are.
I don't like to share trip stories like I used to - now I like to share only methods to work with the mushrooms to help others have awe-inspiring experiences...
