Tobacco is by far the most addictive drug legal or not. The majority of people who use drugs do not get addicted, the people who do are generally living with tough circumstances e.g poverty, family problems or mental illness. Never blame the drug, there will always be people who are reckless with their usage and will cause problems for themselves and sometimes others.

It's funny how one of the most addictive/biggest killers is completely legal

Why ban anything? Why not just allow freedom and liberty and the right to choose for yourself. Do you really think people will just start smoking crack b/c it became legal? No, no one would do that.

Just the people who already smoke weed would be allowed to grow there own, or people that drink Moonshine are allowed to make there own without the government taxing us on it. People that do shrooms would be allowed to grow there own shrooms without government intrusion, if you choose to smoke crack go ahead we weren't going to stop him before that so why try now?. Isn't that what everyone wants Freedom?

Probably would be an increase in ppl using and amounts simply because of avilabilty... however I ddont bileve that would last very long... everyone's chemical biology is different so many ppl won't like a lot of the drugs they try and not continue using...  me on the other hand, I'd go ham for sure

Legalization of (all) drugs is a fantasy in america... may work other places, i.e. portugal, but then half our population wasn't addicted to shooting dope either... decriminalization doesn't seem like a sound path either unless u were required to make ur own? Don't know how you'd have any control over a product only supplied by the black market...

I think it all needs to be set free,
but we need to educate the people on the harmful effects of these drugs first,

not the bullshit like pot will kill you,
but the real effects we all know.
only then threw education will people stop and think before trying new things.

we have tried banning and regulation and jail times for all drugs way to long, its time to set them free.

just like the drug "TV" and all the others you can get from a DR.
its just a scam in my eyes used for profit and nothing else.

I would love the day we can go to the local gas station and pick up some L and glow sticks together.

Hell I just want to grow my own pot in the back yard without going to jail, its that too much to ask.

From what I've read decriminalization of drug use has actually helped in portugal. I may be missing something though.

According to wiki use among adults increased, but declined in adolescents.  HIV diagnosis has been reduced and those accepting treatment has increased.  It's not the same as legalization but it's one of the closest scenarios we have to look at (that I know of.)  It may be a mixed bag, but I think at worst it's not causing any harm.
Drug related deaths, crimes etc are of greater concern than simple use.

Quote:

Increased uptake of treatment.[8]

Reduction in new HIV diagnoses amongst drug users by 17%[14]

Reduction in drug related deaths, although this reduction has decreased in later years. The number of drug related deaths is now almost on the same level as before the Drug strategy was implemented.[8][14] However, this may be accounted for by improvement in measurement practices, which includes a doubling of toxicological autopsies now being performed, meaning that more drugs related deaths are likely to be recorded.[15]

Reported lifetime use of "all illicit drugs" increased from 7.8% to 12%, lifetime use of cannabis increased from 7.6% to 11.7%, cocaine use more than doubled, from 0.9% to 1.9%, ecstasy nearly doubled from 0.7% to 1.3%, and heroin increased from 0.7% to 1.1%[14] It has been proposed that this effect may have been related to the candor of interviewees, who may have been inclined to answer more truthfully due to a reduction in the stigma associated with drug use.[15] However, during the same period, the use of heroin and cannabis also increased in Spain and Italy, where drugs for personal use was decriminalised many years earlier than in Portugal [15][16] while the use of Cannabis and heroin decreased in the rest of Western Europe.[17][18]

Drug use among adolescents (13-15 yrs) and "problematic" users declined.[15]

Drug-related criminal justice workloads decreased [15]

Decreased street value of most illicit drugs, some significantly.[15]

In other words use is up but death and HIV is down.
