Just buy a cheap microscope capable of 400x and do spore lookups if you really want to be sure.
And to save you some effort in the future, ID first and pick later.

Well a sample to have in front of you helps. Also finding the spot again, if in the woods could be difficult.

Paid 3.50 for mine at a salvation army. All I had to do was fix the light.Kids scope that goes to 900x. No pics or measuring but good for spore comparisons.

You can measure if you borrow or buy a stage micrometer, take a picture of it with each objective, and then take pictures of the things you want to measure. Download Piximetre and calibrate it with the pic of the stage micrometer, than proceed to accurately measure anything you can see in the future.
The site is in French but the program can run in English too! All you need to know is that Téléchargez is french for Download.
The cheapest stage micrometer on ebay is $13 - http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_sop=15&_nkw=stage+micrometer&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1

The best cheap microscope that works well for mycology is the Amscope b-100ms.
The thing you should check for when getting a cheap scope is the 100x oil objective. Real microscopes have them, toy scopes don't.

Yes looks good!
If the immersion oil they include smells like cedar, throw it out and order a little bottle of Cargille type A.
You will also need a stage micrometer to calibrate it.
You can try various cameras you have sitting around to take pictures, or order a digital eyepiece. If you have a DSLR get the adaptor from microscopenet.com.

Thanks Alan, I want to use a digital camera with it. Sounds much easier to use a built in digital camera.

It will. Since he advent of suitable synthetic oils and adhesives, the world's largest market for canada balsam is probably frustrating new microscopists.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
