Nice Maynard, what is the spore size range on that collection?

Nice pics Joust, next time consider using a white umbrella to cover as much as the sky as possible to dull the hot spots.  What are the spore sizes on your finds??

Is it possible to measure spore sizes without a stage micrometer or some other measuring device?
Can I use just an image and software?

It's possible to interpolate/extrapolate sizes based on a known or supposed reference, to a pretty decent accuracy.

I've been considering something like Taraxacum officionale pollen, for wont of any better idea.

You need something of a known size to calibrate Piximetre or ImageJ or which ever software you use.  I have been trying to find something microscopic, common and very even in size and I have not decided what is best.

I think red blood cells are around 8 micrometers, I am not sure how much variation there is though.

Cannabis pollen is another possibility, since everyone has some of that (right?)

I was :willynilly:

Hmm. I hate those hot spots too, The umbrella helps, but i need either two more, or just a white ten i can get in lol. which would be sweet. A white dome, with not bottom, just put it wherever your hunting. Well this idea works in the clear cuts where harsh light is coming from every angle.

Here is my pics from today, I think the clearcuts i hit up are too old, and too young. I have some that are aged in between that i plan on checking tommorow.

they were really few and far between, i found them in shady spots with alot of moisture.

Hopefully i will find a more productive area tommorow. Can i see pics of your guys habitats?

Have any of you guys actually eaten any of these?
I've found them a few years in a row now, but I do with them is dry them out and let them sit in a jar until the next years harvest replaces them.
I should probably stop bringing them home.

Na theres too many more potent psilocybes that grow like everywhere

I dont eat them but this is my first year hunting them, and its alot of fun. Clearcuts have a huge variety of cool fungi.

My feeling exactly.
I've recently realized that I like hunting/finding/photographing mushrooms more then I like eating them.
I love the rush you get when you finally find what you've been looking for.
That goes for active and edibles.

Sometimes I ask myself why I bother bringing them home just to sit untouched.
I guess there is some sort of feeling of victory in it for me, they are a prize.

I was thinking of taking the 75 dry grams I have of pellies and making a huge batch of low strength tea.  Passing it around to a lot of people to get a party weird.  Dunno though.

My highest dosage was 14 gm of pells in tea
Compares to 4 gm of cyans
Makes a nice tea...  Eating > 7 gm dry is a bit rough... Lots of stems

Like mixing them with cyans... 3 gm cyans and 5 gm pells
Mushroom cocktail!

Going hunting on Friday!

Thats some strong bluing Joust.

For some reason alot of your pellis look waaay different than mine. Are all those pics pellis? Like the round top ones and the small blue topped ones dont even look like any pellicullosa ive seen pics of.

Mine are all really tall and skinny with conical caps while alot of yours are short and stout with wierd shapes.
