It's kinda been my goal as of late to start blowing glass. I had a trip a while back and since then I've been doing some research. I bought some books "Contemporary Lampworking Vol 1-3", been watching some youtube videos. I wish I were closer dude I would totally take you up on that extra bench and torch.

Thanks for your interest Absolem. I sent you a email on the 8th of November. Let me know if it didn't arrive. If it didn't you also might want to check your spam or junk mailbox to be sure it wasn't filed there.
Green Arrow: Sounds like you are on the right track. Keep learning what you can until you are behind a torch and keep an eye out for local shops needing an apprentice. Ask some of your local head shops about local glass blowers and how to get in contact with them. Renting a spot is usually going to cost $400 a month and up. If you work a apprentice position you might be able to learn for free, but will more then likely have to do boring stuff and give up everything you make until you become worth enough money to pay for your own gas and materials.

Yes its a rig on a rope. You where these around your neck. Newest hype these days is the pendant rig and here are a few of my latest.

Nice stuff man! I agree the pendant rigs seem to be the hot shit lately. I really like the mini rigs too.
A fair warning for all those looking to get involved- I've been blowing glass for just over a year and half now and I'm absolutely addicted, lol. All I do working my other job is dream about coming home and blowing glass. While it's costly to get set up, if you don't have anyone local to go learn from, I suggest getting a cheap torch and a little bit of glass and trying it! From everything I've seen you'll either like it or you won't. I put off getting into it for 10 years and I wish to hell I started when I first wanted to.

Thanks Jonny. Keep it up and one day you can be a full timer on the torch.
Green Arrow: You can get a cheap torch for about $100. oxygen propane regulators and a hose another $150 approx. Propane tanks are cheap $20 and you can rent a oxygen tank $30 a month. Basic graphite tools (reamer, bowl push, paddle) $75 Hot finger (finishing tool) another $40
This is a super minimalist setup at approximately $400
You will probably want a bag of vermiculite and a rubbermade container to use as a kiln. Sort of. Your pieces will crack if cooled to fast. Submerging your hot finished piece in vermiculite will slow the cooling process and give you a higher success without cracking. Otherwise a cheap kiln is another $400 probably.

Your a badass dude! I really appreciate this post! I sincerely wish you success in your endeavours. I may have to pony up and go a little cheaper to get the feel for the glass yknow? I really have got this whole aesthetic planned for my work. My girl is a Ceramic sculptor and I'm really excited about one day being able to collaborate with her.

The Cordyceps mushroom is a brain control mushroom that kills insects so here is my ant character rig with a couple mushrooms bursting from his head. The last one is actually the first one i made trying to gain the confidence to start my cordyceps series. Hope you all like!
