Aren't those micro-breweries the cat's meow these days? I suspect one of their concoctions would do the trick for you.

I was actually looking at some imperial stouts. I went to a pub up north, washington, that brewed the best stout I've ever tried. Thing is, I can't remember the name of the pub.

Go for a high quality beer brewed by a microbrewery, they are the bees knees. This isn't a stout or lager, but check it out http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/76874

I love me a stout, especially russian imperial stout. Anything chocolatey, coffeish, thick creamy head. SO delicious.
DO you have a total wine in your area? They have a decent selection. I hear ABC liquor has a decent selection aswell.
I like southern tier creme brulee, taste pretty damn close to creme brulee. I hear their chocolat is good too, and their coffee. I wasnt a huge fan of the pumpkin one.
Also, I found this at whole foods. It was organic, relatively cheap compared to the other bombers and I really liked it. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1627/30759

This. Unless you are drinking above 8% freshness is a major factor. Also your local brewery needs you. If nobody buys locally made high quality beer, we will never get rid of this swill made from corn and rice that the macro breweries are calling beer.

Can't go wrong with Firestone Walker wherever you are. But, if you're in the Midwest like me, I'd check the dates on the IPAs which are much, much better fresh.
Russian Imperials are (usually) too sweet for me. I'm very partial to scotch ales for my maltier beers. Unfortunately they aren't nearly as popular, and outside of Founders (which doesn't distribute to TX IIRC) they are few and far between. I do enjoy a great stout from time to time, almost always barrel-aged.
Dragon's Milk is IMO a great year-round barrel stout I have every once in a while, but again I'm not sure the New Holland brewery distributes to TX.
I drink IPAs most frequently as they are refreshing all day, every day, but I sit down with a couple maltier beers once or twice a week. Usually some scotch ales (Founders dirty bastard, and soon Backwoods Bastard ), maybe a strong ale/barleywine (Stone's Double Bastard is a great one out now), maybe even a nice stout.
if any of the above are barrel-aged.
A lot of double/imperial IPAs have a very decent malt backbone to boot IMO. I have a few friends that will drink Enjoy By and Hop Stoopid at every chance I offer, but not dare ask for a Sierra Nevada Torpedo . Speaking of, Stone's next Enjoy By shipped out yesterday
If you want a nice refreshing lager, I'm partial to Anchor Steams offerings. Shiner bock and their black lager are pretty good too IMO.

I've apparently never had the regular DBA (english pale ale), but the BA-english barleywine "Double Double barrel ale" is a helluva beer. I generally won't touch english barleywines unless they're barrel-aged, and even then they are hard for me to get down unless they have some age on them. I get flashbacks to being constantly sauced, drinking 99c 12.2% camo cans

I mean, there's your good lager, OP

Never seen it, but from what I can tell about it by reading the web page I think I would like it.
I am currently in Mexico and there is no beer here. All the beer tastes pretty much the same, except for Sol which everyone hates. Stouts are really hard to find here and are usually imported.

Well, I like fresh Tecate more than any other AAL I like negra modelo all right too
Shame about the lack of beer though
Not nearly the same thing, but I was REALLY pleasantly surprised at how much great beer was in New Mexico, and AFAIK only in New Mexico. I think La Cumbre brewery is now distro'ing to Colorado, though.
Speaking of good stouts, Perennial's Abraxas is 2 days away I'm a much bigger fan of the barrel-aged version, but you can't beat great local brews
@Watermelon mon Definitely check out the beer forum you'll have a completely different selection of beer being in Canada but there is some world-class stuff being brewed up there.
