how to make your mind money friendly
    #19130171 - 11/13/13 06:43 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I just quit my high paying job.  The chances of me getting a job that pays as well are slim to none.  See, making that money was easy as hell when I first started the job and I WANTED money but as soon as I got in my groove and had a legit cash flow with extra money to the point where I was able to go to the bar or out with friends every night of the week if I wanted to, with cash left over on the side.  Before I had the job, going out once a month was something spectacular in my life, and the first time I went out more than once in one week I felt like my life was getting amazing I am seeing freinds all the time everything, but now I realize those friends only really come around when I have a job, and its consistent now as we are getting older, I notice its true for everyone, they only really fuck with me when I have money to spend on them or something anyways, eventually I start going out all the time, I dived back into a drug habit, and quickly jumped out but I admit I have been flirting with it, and I look at all of this and see how my mind actually perceives money and financial stress differently from before the job to now, I have no one to help me, and yet I quit my job because I hate it so much and also because of a physical injury but I mean I just don't care about money at all, and as a teenager I was always like this, you know, angsty, fuck the system and money, now I am starting to gravitate back to that mindset and I find the money hungry business craving asshole I have been striving to be the last few years just isn't getting me anywhere, and that isn't the way to go about money, because I end up getting money impulsively, I can't save it, because my motivation is usually what I want to buy with that money, and so if I have nothing to buy or nothing to give me joy out of making that money, why am I going to work for it?  I feel like a retard when it comes to money.  I have a friend who saves every fucking penny, and doesn't do shit ever, and just saves, I wish I could harness that joy I always chase, and maintain it, so getting and saving money would be easy.  Does anyone have any advice or books I could read to maybe  get my head right?

I used to have a high paying job, seems they didn't care about me as a person, they hired me only because of my education/degree , but it was in a completely different field

had tried searching for the job before without the degree, then they said I didn't have what it takes ;-)
even though I had been doing the stuff for 15 years everyday

got hired with my updated CV a month later... worked there for many years
suddenly got 3 new CEOs that didn't know what I did there and I was redundant they said

"what would you say you .. Do .. here?" :-)

then I found out that less paying jobs are often more satisfying
I am free at 4pm, no phone/lappy at home , no long weekend shifts , no stress / no responsibility

what is most satisfying , money , or soul/being oneself after work?

would often overeat at that old job, and couldn't be myself when I got home due to stress... that job destroyed my social life

I hear you!, when my job is really busy I work sometimes over 16 hours a day, and never see the sunlight, but it is slow now so I am not even making all the good money and the entire time I was working, I would of been okay with staying and shit but I have nothing to come home to, no girlfriend or anything and so in my mind I'm like, what am I even working for... and when I'm not even getting ahead working somewhere that pays double or sometimes triple your avg min wage job, then what's the point losing my life over it.

I used to be more happy with my old job that paid 1/3rd of what that job paid :-)

and that was a minimum wage job... but was the best job I have had I think
sometimes physical jobs are better than sitting on my ass all day and eating pizzas ;-)
healthier for body and mind

I think those that make a lot of money are often folks that like the game of making money rather than the money itself. They provide something of value (say, healthy choice edible mushrooms), people want that thing more than the money, so everybody wins, and you get to feel good about the whole thing.

People who stay poor want money for what it gets them: material stuff fulfilling their ego, security, not being broke.

It's a flip of focus: if you are always thinking about how you can help others (and make a profit) and your primary motivation is in the helping then you'll always stay motivated.

But if you want money just for paying bills/debt then your motivation will wane after you have just enough. Then you have to wait till you're near broke again to get motivated to scramble around again.

Do you want to be rich (because of all the terrific stuff you've given to the world)? Or do you want to just not be poor?

Play to win, rather just trying not to lose. The mind sets (beliefs, values, attitudes) are vastly different in each case.

This, completely.

I work for a young, progressive, sustainable company who is super focused on the customer experience. At times it seems redundant how often they are trying to implement new ways of doing things in order to serve the customer better, but really ... they have basically developed a service that didn't exist before and have really excelled at capturing a market, and keeping customers with relatively little/no paid advertising.

Although it is a very basic service, obviously they are doing something right.

I work in a cubicle m-f 9-5. I dont get outside a lot, dont talk to anyone, and make about half what id consider long term career wages.  Other than that its great, i really work about 6 hours a day, and two hours of that is probably actual work. The rest is browsing the internet. I am going to put that free time to something more productive like my next career move, academic endeavors, or investing.

Life is pretty good every day, im just glad to have a job really. I remember how much it sucks to scrape by, and hope i never forget that

yeah. I think a big issue for me is I hold these high standards and hold out for good paying jobs but just as quick as my salary goes up I forget how rare that wealth is, and I lose it quickly.  This time around that played a role but even if I wanted to go back my physical injuries would just get worse so that's in my way too.  I don't know what I'm going to do from here.

start interning with a company, or in a field maybe. thats a great way to ease into a career. even if you done get compensation at first, you usually are of the first pick when a paying job is available. i have heard that the water sanitation field pays remarkably well, does not take a rocket scientist background, and isnt too taxing on the body either, while still allowing you to work outside a bit.
