Thanks Dad!
    #19127016 - 11/12/13 03:37 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

so my dad knows I enjoy home cultivation and is very supportive of it.  he used to not be with the whole cube thing, but now when he comes over and sees my agar petris and oyster projects alongside the cubes, and the fact that I am paying for college somehow (hmmm...) even with a shitty low paying job, he has looked past the negative hype of the drug war.  anyway, he came over today and gave me this:

FRONT

BACK

INSIDE THE BOX WAS:

THE DIRECTIONS ON THE SIDE

They make it seem so easy...It actually says "Great for Kids" on the top!  We are on the verge of making an entire generation of home cultivators!!

It is a really simple box, made from a company called "Back to the Roots"  I looked it up, here is the link, its $19.99..
https://www.backtotheroots.com/Products/Details.aspx?p=1
It claims a pound and a half in ten days, after cutting a cross on one side of the bag, you soak for 12 hours, replace in box standing upright (there is a perforated rectangle that is pulled out, exposing the part of the bag the cross was cut on), and mist twice a day.  After the first flush, you turn the bag around, cut another cross and repeat.  You can see the directions on the box in the 4th pic above.  My dad is into farming stuff and I guess as a way to bond (we don't have the best past) he and I enter a Farm Show in the mushroom category every year (at least the past 2 years) in Harrisburg, PA and I guess he figured this was a way for him to help with a grow, instead of watch (though, this is pretty set and forget)
I just started the dunk, and plan on cloning to agar any nice looking fruits and if its not sterile, printing it.
Any of you guys ever seen anything like this?  I was surprised at the simplicity of the packaging, the directions, and the fact that its somewhat marketed to kids.  Also, $19.99 not bad for a whole do it yourself kit, and getting it as a gift was even better!

I remember seeing that online before. Pretty cool!

Would be funny if it grew cubes instead of Oyster mushrooms, and still advertised it as "edible" and "great for kids" lol... I can see a lot of lawsuits

It might have been some other show but I believe it was that one.

Haha cool
My mommy never fully understood
the whole growing Psilocybe species.
But supported edible mushroom growing instead...
Now when I go visit her, she
doesn't care anymore because I always
told her how they have a very low toxicity
and said how they help my depression, that I have
had diagnosed since I was 15 years old.
But she did NOT like when I would drink Alcohol.
She said it made me into angry and depressed person lol

Glad to hear there are some Mums and Dads
that are somewhat cool with it

I think I saw something of that nature, part of the documentary was about how people use cubes as a treatment for cluster migraines.  This "normal" guy down south, small town, wife and 2 teenage daughters, runs a general store.  He suffers from cluster migraines and grows cubes on cakes, they show his set up too, not that great but I guess he only needs a bit.  He takes them once every month or two, and they show him having the experience, he says he hates doing it because it makes him feel weird, he goes into his room, lays down in the dark, kinda tossing and turning, and the next day feels great, has all these inspiring things about life to say.  They interview the daughters and wife, and they talk about how they feel like people look down on their dad for using the mushrooms as a medicine, but since its the only thing that works for him (conventional Rx tried for years with little to no luck) they do not understand why it is a crime to do what he is doing.  Pretty interesting stuff.
actually, here is the u tube clip, only 7 minutes long if u got a second!

Eshmash-
Yea my dad has been through it with me, I was a heroin addict for three years after finding my mom dead on the kitchen floor from a heart attack, so mushrooms seem like nothing to him at this point, but the idea of growing a lot of them was at first displeasing to him because anything drug related would bring back to him memories of me in rehab, needles, etc.  The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom though, I'm much better off now, doing well for myself, and psychedelics played a key role in my recovery, I cannot thank them enough, though he may never understand the extent to which they can be used for personal growth, I love him either way though

I'm the same way a previous heroin addict with no goals in life other than mainlining dope and large amounts to the point of death only once though and thank god they worked on me long enough to bring me back but honestly at the time I wasn't happy alive. As soon as I was out of the hospital I bought more dope and the process continued for years until rehab and moving far away from the drug itself then I started dabbling more with psychedelics and my way of thinking has changed more for the better even though I'm still not 100% where I want to be I'm closer now than I ever would have been without mushrooms and I still consider myself drug free no weed or alcohol just mushrooms every month or 2. It's good to hear their are others out there with the same story. Congratulations for making it out.

wow, amazing story!  I was unaware of the medicinal properties aside from psychological purposes.  Great to hear about your own triumphs, blinding leaf and gymspawn.  I have an even deeper respect now for this hobby
