Stealth growing underground (and I don't mean a basement)
    #1912727 - 09/13/03 03:09 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I had the idea once in a dream and want to know if it would be possible.

Hypothetically, say you have a large bank account, a person who can build you boxes (customs sized, airtight, and to your specifications), and some shroom growing equipment (jars and otherwise).

You need to grow mushrooms underground. A dig a hole, pop in a box sort of thing. That's the requirement.

How would you execute such a thing. I was thinking of a concrete bottom for the box where you would install some sort of heating coil or such. The idea would be a low human care grow, where someone would only have to come to the box every week or two to maybe change batteries for all the things you'd need to maintain it.

The box would need to be buried fairly deep and the cover concealed somehow. I don't have a clue about how sterile things would be.

It's only an idea at the moment, but it's one that can be worked with. Two problems I know that will be encountered are seasonal temperature changes, which will vary from being too hot (90F) or too cold (0F would be the coldest), and providing the box with enough energy to run all these things. Some of the boxes might be able to get plugged in, but most would be battery-dependent or hell, maybe solar. I don't know how to work that part out exactly, or if its possible.

Build a shed/lab underground in your back yard.

well get a rubbermaid a water proof extestion cord and enough sod to cover the top.

get an underground heating cable, they have ones that keep the soil at a minimum of 75 degrees (f) and line your hole with it. put a little dirt over the cable so it dosent touch the rubermaid, and slide her in. cut the patch of sod so that it will cover up the top of the rubbermaid. use some pearlite humidification and check once a day.

i have thought of this alot and it is feasable, however come the snowy season you are going to have a giant grassy spot cuz all the snow on top will melt, and there isnt any way to cool the thing in the summer, but it would work for a bit

creepy that i was just thinking about this, how i live in such a barren and relentlessly hot place (vegas) that it would be possible. i was thinking along the lines of using the city's water supply to cool the box, they have sprinkelers here that are on for most of the day, its really dry and those would solve that problem, but im still wondering how to make the access to it less difficult, digging a hole everytime would be quite dodgy and obvious, anyone got a solution for that? i cant grow indoors where i live now, so i need some sort of solution.

i remembering reading somewere that living in underground houses would be ideal in extreme tempature climates because just under the earth stays a constant temp,i remember like 60ish or something.this was years ago in a mother earth news magazine.when i waas younger me and my brothers stumbled across my dads solider handbook were they explain different types of undergroud dwellings,we through one together.it seems no matter the weather it was allways comfortable to hang out in,that is if you didn't have air currents, esecpicily if it was cold seeing that it was allready cool under there.in those cases it was wise to build in chimneys like l shaped tunnels attached to the "livig area".just some info.but im sure it can be done, maybe incorperate some solar panels and a battery circuit to supply power to a heating element.just some ideas

wow that link from wheedhead is intense, i didnt look at prices but it did seem like it would be extremly expense, effective.but expesive. for sumthin less hardcore , if u buried it a few i dont believe summer would be as big of a problem as u think, u could make like a false ground plug to cover the hole, like some sort of wood frame with a layer of dirt a sod on top, lighting would kinda be a bitch but prolly not that bad, ne way good luck

Ideal stealth underground 'lab'

Dig a large rectangular hole in the ground (the size of the actual lab.
line the hole with plastic sheeting, or weed killing sheets. Build a support of wood about the walls of the hole. Build up the rest of it however you want.
THEN
Place long supports across the top of the hole (the celiing of the lab) Create paneling or construct a ceiling of some kind with a ladder or stairway to get down into the 'hole' with.
Make sure to have wiring for sockets and lighting. Also include a water pipe for a sink and drain. Also include ventilation of some kind (blower/HEPA)
THEN.

You have one of two options:
A) Build or buy a shed to put on top of the whole underground space.
Create an access port in the floor of the shed so that you can get down there, maybe include a lock of some kind.

B) Lay sod over the hole to conseal the whole thing. Add a loose piece for entry.

Key for the underground area: Create it in an area thats higher than the normal ground so that water doesn't drain into it. Also make sure to construct it with quality in mind for the same reason.

Sounds like somebody is going to either electrocute themselves, burry themselves, or waste a lot of time and energy.

How about a hippie invitro grow, with the jars just thrown in the box, and left outside in a place with a lot of trash, like an abandoned lot or something. Just shoot the jars, drop off the box, come back in a few weeks and see what's going on in there?

Otherwise, just make a patch, somewhere in the city where the sprinklers are.

I once had dreams of a vast underground clubhouse as a kid. After about 4 months of digging I realized it was the most absurd and naive thought of my life.

Basically, you gotta buy a small shed for about 100 bucks(I big ass doghouse for great danes would work). Then you gotta buy a big ass fuckin tube(Like a drainage tube) and You gotta be able to crawl through this bitch, A plastic slide would do, and you could simply steal one from a playground(You know, the rich ass, multicolor plastic ones) Then you gotta dig a big fuckin hole to bury this shit in. You connect the slide to the shed/doghouse, and seal that shit. You also gotta seal the shed/doghouse. Bury that shit with like 3' of dirt ontop, and make the slide opening go into a hole. The hole would be covered with a board, and some moss. Youd have to have the shrooms in rubbermaid bins, and have alota lysol. A thermostat, and a heating/cooling element would be a must.
