Trouble finding books, help please?
    #19127095 - 11/12/13 03:51 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hey, I already have 3 books on mushrooms. I have 2 field guides and a larger book with around 900 species in, but I wanted to find some more books that are more in depth on the different genus' of mushrooms. I saw a book a few weeks ago that was dedicated to agarics of europe, but I can't find it again.
Another thing I can't find is books on mushrooms that also contain images of the spores. I'm investing in a microscope soon and a book like that would be very useful in helping me identify.
I was just wondering if anybody knew of any books that are similar to what I'm looking for or if anybody knows any good books in general on the subject? Books on mushrooms that are in the UK and europe are preferable.I'm looking to increase my knowledge on this subject now that I've gotten into reading.

Also, I'm sorry in advance if this was the wrong forum to post in, but I figured it was the right one since I'm looking for books to help me identifying.

Thanks, Charles.

There are many Mycological journals and monographs available online for free. Are there any genera you are specifically interested in? One of my favorite sites for researching older taxa is http://www.librifungorum.org/

If you are interested in fungal microbiology you should order this book-
http://www.amazon.com/How-Identify-Mushrooms-Genus-III/dp/0916422097

I've read it twice this month, it's freaking awesome.

I keep meaning to buy those volumes [the 3 as a set], but don't get around to it. Maybe I put it on my Christmas list.

I believe there are six total. I bought the first three in the spring- absolutely fantastic books. Lots of fun vocab.

I bought all six and I don't really like them.  They are pretty outdated.  Some are better than others.  The cultural features one I found worthless.

The good European books are Fungi of Switzerland and Flora Agaricina Neerlandica.

I'll have to look it up later. I know that 5 is out of print and über expensive. 6 is pretty much a supplement to modernize the previously published keys.

I probably wouldn't get that one. Actually, I'd only really recommend one and three- they deal with biological terms instead of taxonomy.

Wow, I didn't expect Alan Rockefeller to post in this thread, thanks for the help guys.

In response to Gravija, yes I am looking for some genus specific books. I am looking for Pscilocybe, Agaricus, Russula and Bolete as they are the most common mushroom that I deal with.

Also, are these books any good? http://www.nhbs.com/british_fungus_flora_agarics_and_boleti_sefno_5268.html

Edit: Actually, I realised that 3 trusted identifiers have posted here, thanks for you time all.
