Photos from Hyderabad, India taken by my girlfriend
    #19110388 - 11/09/13 01:23 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

So even though I can't take credit for any of these photos, I can take credit for inspiring her, right?? All taken by her in Hyderabad, India between July and October. All pictures for entertainment purposes only, no need to identify unless you want to. She's over there for a study abroad trip. Freaking, she's going to Thailand in December, and China right after for a week. I'm so jealous. What are the rules for bringing back prints??? I want some exotic spores.....

Cool Macrolepiota! Tell her to scope elephant dung for cubensis and copes. Also, Psilocybe keralensis, and the Psilocybe in section Aztecorum found in india (I guess P. natarajanii?).

--------------------
Species List (Georgia): Psilocybe caerulescens/weilii, Psilocybe atlantis/galindoi, Psilocybe cubensis, Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata, Psilocybe caerulipes, Psilocybe semilanceata, Psilocybe fagicola, Copelandia cyanescens, Panaeolus cinctulus, Panaeolus fimicola, Panaeolus olivaceus, Gymnopilus luteofolius, Gymnopilus aeruginosus, Gymnopilus junonius, Pluteus salicinus

(Ohio): Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata, Psilocybe caerulipes, Pluteus cyanopus, Pluteus salicinus sensu lato..., Panaeolus cinctulus, Gymnopilus luteus, Gymnopilus luteofolius, Gymnopilus junonius, Gymnopilus aeruginosus

I've been telling her to keep a look out for anything in those genus. She hasn't had much time to hunt in India due to her schooling, but I'm hoping she'll be more keen in Thailand. We were both wondering if there would be any issues bringing home spores and/or dry tissue without specific credentials?

Well, spore prints are about as discreet as it gets... Its just a piece of paper really, so you could just print up some notecards or something and have them as "bookmarks." Also, they would need to prove that you knew they were psilocybin-containing fungi, so just play dumb. But then again, dumb folks don't just walk around with spores and tissue samples. Lol.

Ever see nothing but tiny poo particals when you're scoping cow poop.  Just look at it with binoculars, dummy.  For your health.

Oooo, I don't know. When I go looking for cincts, I find it's easiest to bring my telescope (Which is I'm sure is what was meant). As for the poo that gets in they way, I've trained my eyes to differentiate the browns. If you want to get good without looking for mushrooms, go look at impressionistic paintings. Trust me, I can spot mushrooms from a mile away. Nocs are for bird watching.

And thank you hash. I kind of figured that. Maybe she can put them in a baggie and label it "art". That's not suspicious, right?

Your GF takes better pics than 99%  of the noobs on this forum. She did really well. Most  of the time, people cant seem to understand how to focus a camera. They focus on the back ground and the mushroom shots are always blurry.

In our defense, some of us have crapazoid cameras which strictly refuse to focus on the target object, and continually set themselves back to infinity mode, so the owner must repeatedly set macro.  Anyone want to have a camera burning in effigy party?

You usually have great pics. I'm mainly referring to the folks  that  take pics of their shrooms and you cant tell if they are photographing a mushed up dog turd or a mushroom.

Haha, we do have a background in photography. She uses a Rebel EOS t3i with the stock lens. As for her "skills" I did try to prep her a little bit before she left. This site is awesome for everything you need to know. It's a pity people can't make it easy.

Unless you are either A: legally blind/retarded or B: taking pictures with a potato, you should be able to focus a simple lens and get a somewhat decent photo. People are just so  sometimes.

Says the guy without a gallery.  Also, both of those things, yes.  For example I had to edit this response to correct the word "Alos", because it was supposed to be "Also"

Make it easy for themselves, for others. It's not like art or something where you need to set up a time and place in order to capture the moment. Focus on objective features, which are clearly worded in this forum, and if it doesn't look good, don't share it. I don't why else to complicate this process.

My camera may as well be a potato when it comes to ID photos. That's what you get when you spend less than $25 for one that has no macro setting at all. I didn't buy it with mushrooms in mind, and it works great for basic snap-shots. The photography snobbery is a little annoying and out of place here... You can't exactly expect people to invest heavily into photography when they're foraging for food and drugs.

Well if you don't want to die you should find some way to provide a decent photo so we can make accurate ID's.

If I have a need for someone else to ID my finds for me, I'll be sure to do that.

However, I would counter that if I were foraging in the wild for food and drugs to put in my body and I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking for, then I'd damn sure try my best to provide as much information as possible to the people who can help me identify what I do find. That includes in-focus photos which show all of the basic features of the food/drugs in question. It's not snobbery to wish more people posted quality photos like DreadlockFungi has posted, unless snobbery includes wanting to help people under its definition

Yeah, save the snobbery remarks for a forum that isn't primarily science based. This isn't tumblr or something, but a mostly valid database of knowledge. If one can't contribute to standards that actually have value, it's truly not worth it. If that's snobbery, then how do we learn? When a picture is good enough, it doesn't matter a single bit how that happened.

As for entertainment purposes, I'd say it's like watching a Jetta rally versus an Impreza. Sure a Jetta can do it, but Imprezas make it look so sexay. It'd be snobby to expect only Imprezas to rally, but it's not snobby to expect the driver to at least be able to maneuver the course.
