right on thanks, just an amateur hunter, only eat em if I'm 100%, so are the inocybes active? I really thought I scored with the first ones. found them all in a cow pasture.

No.
What are you targeting? You might be looking in the wrong environment.

From what I understand (just an amateur here too) Inocybes are not active and very toxic.

idk how experienced you are but from what I've researched I know for a fact that there are a few inocybes that contain psychoactive compounds.
Well mostly looking for mushrooms to trip, but I only can be certain with psilo's that I've picked before and can identify 100%

There are only a tiny percentage of Inocybes out of the hundreds of species of Inocybes that are psychedelic, and a vast majority of Inocybes are toxic, containing muscarine. Don't risk it.
And it's generally not a good idea to pick a lot of mushrooms and store them in the same container, especially if you plan on eating any actives you find. If you picked any toxic mushrooms, they can ruin your whole batch.
ID first by picking only one or two out of an unknown species for spore print and analysis, and if it turns out to be what you're looking for then come back later and pick more.

Or, to put this way; little enough seems to be known about the edibility of Inocybe on the whole that if I found even one of the active [psilocybian, blue bruising species] which I couldn't identify to a species having an established history of consumption, I wouldn't even then trust that they didn't also contain muscarine, and would therefore not play with them.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

If I ever found any active Inocybes I'd try to get them to a lab for GC/MS.

yea right on thanks, good to know. I usually always put my finds in separate bags, but way smarter to just take one to identify and come back later. but could it ruin a batch by just having them laying by each other? dang I'm a little disappointed really thought I found a few good fungi here.

You probably want to be looking in woodchip beds and forests with lots of woody debris. I recomment reading a lot more of this forum for research.

Classic case of someone picking a buttload of LBM's and asking others to sort it out for them. Wishful thinking and risky behavior. Natural selection at it's best!
EDIT: Credit due for decent pics though.

How did you come to conclusion that picking and asking for IDs is somehow risky? I agree with natural selection, but the OP is apparently on the side of good reasoning, and will likely die of old age after having fathered beautiful genius babies.

I wish this forum offered a "like" button for posts. You'd get one. I guess it's all in good fun to pick mushrooms and play with the guys that know more about them. And I guess we don't mind that much since it gives us a chance to play too. But I've had my share of mycophagist inquiry at an ignorant level and I guess I'm a little touchy. You have the right of it I think.

It does! Its the little grey plus sign at the top center of each post, just to the right of the title.
If two or more people click the plus sign in 12 hours or less, the post can be seen in the "best posts" display.
