Some Azzys?
    #19125440 - 11/12/13 08:48 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Habitat:
Fort Stevens State Park; Where the Columbia meets the Pacific. Growing prolifically off of twigs, out of dirt, etc.

Gills:
Tannish brown, attached

Stem:
White to brown, some hollow some not, long smooth

Cap:
Conical to spherical, brown, convex

Spore print color:
Not quite done yet, will include picture

Bruising:
Not bruising at the moment

Yesterday was my second time hunting around Astoria and fort Stevens. I live only an hour and a half away. I came upon these within a few hours of hunting. I'm very optimistic but hesitantly so. I've never seen anything that I was so sure we're Azzys and I'm Reeaaallllyyyy hoping they're it so coul you guys help me out?

Not Psilocybe azurescens, seems like an Inocybe species.

:whathesaid:

Subgenus Telamonia is likely. Print will come out rusty brown.

P. azurescens also should show evident blue bruising. Be aware however that some
species of Cortinarius has blue to violet tones in flesh color. A lengthwise split
of a healthy specimen is often useful in Cortinarius identification. Also note odor(s)
if possible - Cortinarius spp. and Psilocybe spp. have distinctly different odors ime.

I also think that corts will have a brownish spore print vs. the purple/ black of most psilocybes....Those gills are a giveaway...they are very rusty brown from dropping spores.

Okay thanks guys. Man I was really excited. I thought I'd stumbled onto a field of hundreds of Azzys xD but I guess that's how things go sometimes. Any use for my pounds of C. Telamonias?

Not really. Bin them, unless you want to study them under a microscope.
