I have slept with the same fan on, basically every night, for the past 15 years. So you're not alone on that one. Dead silence is like a loud high pitch buzzing that drives me insane it sux
I was using this for a while during the summer http://www.rainymood.com/

I do and always will use a fan to sleep at night. Every night of the year. My friends also complain about my room being cold lmao, but fuck em I like my bedroom a bit chilly also, lets me cuddle deep into my blankets!
Without a fan on, it seems waaaaaay too quiet... I dont understand how people use tv to go to sleep fuck that shit..

I need to sleep in the complete silence.
Therefore i usually go to bed with ear taps and and blindfolded.
[Edit]But, when im camping or in the outdoors, i usually sleep without them to hear the sounds of nature. Its just that in the center of a city, the noises that you hear arent necessary the best.

I cant fall asleep without my fan on. So right now.. as we had our first snowfall last night, I still had my fan on. But I place my fan directly in front of the heater vent so it just amplifies my heat, if you can use amplify like that.
Woke up, and room was nice and toasty!

LuSiD enthusiast said: I have occasional exploding head syndrome. I'll belaying in silence, then right as i fall asleep a bright flash and BANG, i hear the noise i imagine someone would hear when their eardrums pop, then i'll wake up gasping for air. I've gotten used to it more, and really it helps me lucid dream more. But god is it scary to lie there wondering if my head will explode tonight.
That sounds pretty trippy. I think I might have experienced that once before, but I'm pretty sure I was dreaming at the time. I get hypnagogic jerks quite often, but the worst thing, by far, has to be sleep paralysis. I had the worst episode of that ever a little over a week ago. Never have I experienced it as intensely as I did this time. It really puts the fear of god into you.
My ticking clock has died on me, so I guess that was what would lull me to sleep before, but lately I've loved using a sleep app on my mobile with storms/rain to help me fall asleep. It gives a wee bit of ambience to the room and is really comforting, as I usually daydream and wonder about things before I enter the sleep state. I've found I've fallen asleep much faster if I use it. I'll program it to run about 2 hours, but I'm well asleep by then. There's nothing like a real thunderstorm raging outside your bedroom, but for now, this works very well.

If you're not ready to buy one, try putting fan as close to your head as possible. By the way, the brand of the one I use is Marpac.

I have tinnitus from exposure to loud music, but i can sleep in silence just fine. Although without protecting the ears it could get way worse.
