Is there any point in using Tor to visit cleanweb sites?
    #19123354 - 11/11/13 09:06 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I was recently informed that when you use Tor to access cleanweb sites (such as the Shroomery), your anonymity can potentially be compromised if there is a malicious exit node at the end of the Tor relay you are using.

I don't know how often Tor relays come with malicious exit nodes, but since visiting cleanweb sites on Tor can potentially compromise your anonymity, is there any point to using Tor to visit cleanweb sites in the first place?

I think you're mistaking what I'm saying; Your anonymity isn't directly compromised, but the data you are sending can be sniffed out, revealing passwords you are using, etc...

Your IP is still masked, the exit node doesn't know who you are, but it can sniff out your data.

Anonymity and internet are mutually exclusive period. If they want you bad enough they can, and will, find you. Simply adding enough hurdles and keeping off of radar by exercising a little self control can make it less worth-wile for them to get to you. You know as they say, the Devil has bigger fish to fry.

Well not  For sure If you log onto an open system (or hacked) your mac can give you up. unless you can change your mac with windows this is nearly impossible. But lets just say for arguments sake I log on to you with a faked mac (hacked or not) you would have to be very important I.E. coke , heroin or kiddie porn. At that point they would have pretty much have to be within eyesight to triangulate you. and actually find you you would still have to be on-line. Remember your I.p. only comes from the router you are using. But your mac will give you away and the router would have to be in radio range of YOU

You're MAC address of your nic doesn't exit beyond the closet router.

Example:

you---router1---router2---router3

from you to router 1, router 1 knows your MAC addres. From router1 to router 2, Router 2 only knows the local interface of Router 1. From Router2 to Router 3, router3 only knows the local interface of router 2.

Sure if your MAC address is logged in the router you're fucked. But your MAC doesn't exist beyond router1.

Yes the chances on you're traffic being monitored is low, but regardless the likelihood is still there. Unless you are in a country like syria, iran, etc.. I wouldn't recommend using Tor to browse your regular facebook, email, etc.. However if you want to use certain accoutns and keep them seperate from your real identity, then yes use Tor.

If you're on a linux box changing your mac is harder, but on a Windoze it's easy. Download TMac, and change it. You can't changed the BIA, but you can change the one that's loaded into your OS while itis running.

fdisk? :lolsy: What is this, Windows XP?

Well for one a working knowledge of the iw and if commands would make your statement valid :nojustno: and for 2 macchanger does not change it entirely but it is a good  start.:lolsy: Plus reformatting 5 to 7 times is what the D.O.D takes a normal search to . So STFU. With all due respect .  And btw shredder reformats 35 times but fdisk and or cfdisk should get the job done. :psycrankey:

Your MAC has a BIA address that is hardcoded into it when it's manufactured. This is loaded into RAM once your computer boots. You can change this address, but you can't changed the BIA so I fail to see how I'm wrong.

Yes macchange doesn't change it entirely, afaik there is no way to change your BIA address. But it works for temporarily masking your mac address; So I fail to see how I'm wrong. Care to enlighten me without telling me to shut the fuck up?

Reformatting? That actually doesn't completely overrwite the data. If the D.O.D wanted to get your infoz, they could still recover it through a reformat. If you shred your disk with file shredder or DBAN, it refills the data with 1s and 0s. Reformatting is good for reintalling your OS, or purging the files on it but it does absolutely no good to permantly destroy the left over data on it.
