Should I shake this WBS?

This jar of PE has taken a very long time to colonize, I think its been about a month now. I was hoping that when I shook it the first time and distributed the mycelium some it would really take off, but it's still very slow. Do you think it'd be a good idea to shake this again, or is it already too colonized for it to be effective? I just want it colonized as fast as possible since it'll be my master for G2G

Shaking won't help you much, given how spread out the mycelium is. And I wouldn't make anything that took a month to colonize a jar my G2G master, but maybe that's just me.

IME shaking a master jar at that point will often do more harm than good. If its not colonized due to contam its fucked either way. If its just that you shook too soon and the goings slow, the recovery time and lost energy from recovery will mean its not gonna speed anything up, but may also negatively effect your receiving jars speed.
Just give it time. It will either finish, or it won't. In the meantime, start more jars. More is more in my book

I shake my jars pretty often. After I g2g transfer, I find if I shake about every 3 days I have full colinazation in less than a week and a half. However i am not sure what negitive affect shaking your master culture jars causes. This is just what I have experienced in my very limited experience.

I don't shake my receiving jars at all after the initial G2G and get full colonization in a week and a half or less. I also usually see my spawn run finish in 4-6 days and I don't shake my tub either

Um, if you shake and you don't see it regrow within 50 hours. then you have a bad jar. I don't care if you have 10% of a jar 20 % of a jar or 90% of jar. Mycellium doesn't know if its at 10 or 90%. So, if you shake and it takes more then two three days to recoup, then you have a bad batch. I'm with the guy on three days. I agar transfer, wait three days after it starts to colonize the grain, usually day 4 or 5.(first shake) Then after it seems to recoup I give it another day or two days and shake again (usually , 3 to 5 days after initial shake) and then I repeat untill fully colonized then wait another 5-7 days to fully colonize,I mean, Super white and dense. I shake once more, if it restores in 49 hours I know it's good. then G2G or ready to spawn. but thats me

The thing is, every time you shake you create a lag period. The benefit of the first shake is that it randomly distributes points of inoculation throughout the jar, and this benefit allows you to immediately reach grains on the bottom of the jar that at a normal rate of colonization would take a week or more to reach. Shaking multiple times doesn't make dispersion of colonized material throughout the jar any more random or thorough, but does set you back two to three days each time.
This is exactly why PastyWhyte (and everybody else) opts to not shake their monotubs: the spawn is mixed with the substrate by hand, and once you have random and thorough dispersal, there's absolutely no point to shaking.
