Safe to Inoculate before Vacation??
    #19120508 - 11/11/13 01:03 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

So In less then two weeks im going to go on a 9 day vacation. Ive tried to research colonization times but ive found different answers across the board. So is it safe to inoculate my half pint jars before i go on vacation? If so how long before I leave should I inoculate them?

Also I have 3-pound rye mix bags. Would it be safe to inoculate those as well? or do I need to like be there to shake em and stuff??

Thanks!

I dont have any exp with pf tek, which i assume youre using since you mentioned half pint jars.

However if I was going from spore, I would noc up my rye jars the day I left, and I would most likely come back to jars about 15% colonized.

This is just how my jar usually work with spore. If I go from GLC or agar, they would prob be ready for a shake on the 7th day. G2G would be ready for a shake 4 days after initial transfer

This is just my usual times, yours could go faster or slower depending on a bunch of factors, genetics being a large one

G2G receiving jars should be shaken once at inoculation and that's it.

There should be no need for another shake after that.

I'd inoculate 2 weeks before you get back. Best case scenario it colonizes in a week and you give it a week to consolidate, assuming you're doing the pf tek. If you're just doing grains, then one week extra won't hurt anything at all.

No way the jars will be fully colonized in a week from spores....it could take longer than that for them to germinate and start to grow.

Inoculate as soon as possible...it's going to take time.

By the time you get back, the grain bag should be good to knead and spread the inoculation points.
