Surprised nobody has started a pub thread about this kinda big story. I sure feel for the people who's lives have been torn apart by this.

An atomic weapon could have hardly done more damage. And to think one part of the Philippines is still digging out from the after shocks of a major earthquake from last week and I think another big, bad storm is on the way there now.
We should pray for them and make contributions where and when we each can.

I wish I could do more to help. I have a FB friend over there who I haven't heard from since the storm. I also frequent a Filipino restaurant where the nicest ladies work. They must be terribly concerned about their friends and family over there. I'll have to go see them soon.
I would almost consider going over there to help with relief efforts, although I really have no training in such things, so I'm not sure if I would be very much help. That and I can't be loosing my job to go do it. I wonder if they would let me take a leave? I've only been there about 6 months.

Do you think they have a choice?
People over there are DESPERATE to get to places like the US. Why do you think all the mail order brides and stuff from the Philipines? Because they want to get out and have better opportunities.

Ya not to mention the Philippines is one of the most dangerous places in the world to walk the streets. I used to train in a Filipino martial art system called eskrima. It was a fighting style born of necessity, it uses 2 short bamboo sticks meant to imitate a broom handle broken in half. The Philippines are like the Mexico of asia.

The Red Cross is sending aid
this is the AUS Red Cross but if you're in another country I'm sure there are aid agencies you could donate through.
Just select the "Haiyan Typhoon Relief" option so your money goes to the right place. https://donations.redcross.org.au/SGOrders/Create
