Why do drugs?

I am curious.
Some people do 'drugs' because they are in pain or have an ailment that the 'drug' helps relieve or lessen.
I suppose some people do drugs to help expand their consciousness or to attain a higher place of enlightenment. This would probably include religious/shamanistic ritual use of drugs.
Other people might do drugs because they like to get fucked up, and not have to think about whats real or just want to blow off steam.
And we all know there are some people that do drugs to be cool, or to fit in with the cool crowd, or because someone else that they admire or like does it.
Why do you do drugs? Or why do you think people do drugs? (when I say drugs, I mean illegal or not prescribed by a dr.)

I think putting a divide between prescribed meds and illegal meds is a little arbitrary but whatever. I use drugs as tools to further my own spiritual life. I also use them to blow off steam after a long couple of weeks.

Sort of dependent on the drug for me. I use herb like a lot of people I know use alcohol. Think its pretty common for people to go out for a drink on friday or saturday. I like to chill in my living room with a friend or two and hit the vape. My use of herb is both recreational but also therapeutic and rewarding. I don't use psychedelics in a recreational manner for the most part. I've found that psychedelics have an incredibly therapeutic quality that rejuvenates me and really makes me wanna keep living and moving forwards. On the other hand, when I roll, its purely for recreational purposes. I'll roll every 5 months, usually at a big concert or electro show.
I know some people that use no substances at all and I've found it difficult to have a conversation with them regarding the topic. I find that due to their complete abstinence, they cannot relate to the experiences whatsoever and so they just like down upon said experiences for the most part. Which is kinda funny because before I rolled, I never really wanted to roll, but once I did, I wanted to do it again...
To be honest, I've wondered at times if I should cut out all the substance use. I am a very heavy thinker, and I've found that my substance use has complicated things for me. Sometimes I enjoy the complexity while other times it gets to be way too much. I'm decently young though so I figure I'll see where my substance use takes me and if it seems to be getting progressively worse, I'll most likely stop
Sorry for the long post, interesting topic, I'm interested in hearing others answers

I recall using marijuana as preference to alcohol. It was much easier to get for starters when I started using it. Usually was cheaper, in fact I rarely paid for weed. The effects were much more enjoyable... ever had hang over from weed? But this is missing the point. I did it because I was exploring my life and growing up I suppose. That and it provided an escape from the harsh realities of being an upper-middle class white boy. Sometimes I still the feel urge but it's passing... It's still fun and exciting and provides a fantastic experience, I just generally am happier with myself and my life.
I started on the shrooms for the same reason. I think boredom and a lack of self-identity was the key for me. Now I have a much more secure sense of being I really don't feel the need to do drugs like iI once did. Except medicinal, anti-biotics generally don't provide the buzz of joint

I use cannabis to relax at the end of a day, or on the weekends when I have nothing going on. As for psychedelics, I use them to experience parts of my mind that would otherwise be 'locked' away, and for emotional healing

Drugs are fun, mmkay? Each drug does something different for me. LSD and mushrooms remind me that real life is cake and nothing is more terrifying than feeling like you're losing your mind, but you always come out of it, FINE. They help remind me that I am a person, and they help me notice where my feet are going.
But either way, I like drugs. I honestly wouldn't be the same person if I never took that first dose..

Kind of a vague question.
Psychedelics for enlightenment. Although sometimes just to have some fun.
Weed and/or kratom for relaxation. As well as to treat my anxiety.
Alcohol because I'm probably an alcoholic. Still trying to figure that one out.

It's all I've ever known. In elementary school dare i remember saying to myself that i'll be doing drugs when I'm older. I was such a smart child. Drugs are fun, there's nothing like it. The way C.K. Louis puts it: "How do you tell kids not to do drugs? Keeping them away from the perfect solution to every problem. Drugs are so good that people throw away their lives for them and you're just supposed to tell them never to do that?" Most of the quote is irrelevant but you get it.

Weed and scotch for end of day relaxing.
Rum, tequila, vodka and coke for partying.
MDMA for dancing and enjoying large social events.
Psychedelics to reset my mental state.
Adderall and coffee for working.
Those are the only ones that I do and only rarely do I use them for other reasons, which would mainly be to get in a girl's pants or sheer boredom.

@kr0n: LOL!! Isn't that ayla in your signature?
It really depends, if I'm in a bad mood and depressed, I'll do drugs to feel better. Which really doesn't work to well.
Most of the time I just do drugs because I'm fun, bored, want to be high, and have addictive and compulsive dosing issues.

Was depressed, used psychedelics/weed as recreation , as I spent all my time in front of computers/books (working/studying)
LSD helped me find myself and reconnect with nature, meditation + feel more in my thoughts than in years (better overview/memory due to less stress)
it healed me emotionally each time, during 150 trips or so now tripping does nothing, so rarely trip, maybe 1 time a year with LSD if lucky to find it
helped me find the love for myself and everything I see, for the first time in 12-14 years
as for weed, it did the opposite of LSD LSD healed me emotionally/psychically from my excessive weed usage, and made me quit weed permanently
can only recommend LSD,shrooms, salvia , they can all heal and teach (because the teacher is within us) LSD or shrooms do the same for me, but LSD is best, more love IMO :-)
