first mini-monotub questions please help!

Alright, so for anyone that's been keeping up with my grow log (http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19010300), you will know that i am currently about half way through my first grow!
I was going to take my first 2 fully colonized quart jars of Z+ and G2G them, but i've decided that i want to go ahead and start a mini-mono instead. i have a third one that's almost fully colonized so that one will go into my first G2G experience soon enough.
Now.. here's a pic of the tub that i bought for my mini-mono.

it is a 24 quart tub, which is definitely tall enough for me to have about 4 inches of substrate and still have plenty of room for the mushrooms to grow. what i'm wondering at the moment, is how much coco coir/verm i will need in order to fill this up.
i have a 650g brick of coir, and a nice big bag of verm and gypsum.
how much of the coir do you think i should use?
Do you think 2 quart jars is enough for a mini-mono of this size?
How should i do the holes? Lots of small holes on all sides? or just the standard layout of 1.5in holes, one on each side?
and lastly, i am going to purchase a space heater to heat my grow room. is this necessary, or recommended in order to help the mycelium grow in the tub? and is this healthy for fruiting conditions?
Thanks in advance, and any help is greatly appreciated!!!

1brick of coir = 6-7 quarts. I'm searching about the best ratio for spawn to sub also but all I find is : most people do a 1:2 spawn:sub But you can do up to a 1:10... It just takes longer to colonize and therefore is more susceptible to contams So I would recommend just a 1:2 for your first one. To find out where your holes go take an empty qt jar and fill it with water and dump it in there Repeat this for a total of 6 qts for a 1:2 ratio then you have your sub lvl you can mark and make the holes right above it.
I am starting my 1st mini mono tonight so good luck!

thanks for the response! but i guess i sort of worded my question poorly. i know about the spawn to sub ratio, what i was wondering as far as the coir is concerned, was how much of the brick i should use.
since i have a 650g brick, should i break it in half for the mini-mono? i dont want to soak the whole thing and waste whatever i dont use. i would like to try and be as efficient as possible, and only use what i need.
anyway, aside from that, do you think using 2 quarts of spawn and 4 quarts of sub would be proficient for a mini-mono of this size? since it is 24quarts total, im assuming that 6 quarts would fill enough to cover around 3-4 inches.

Since no one else is chiming in I will repeat myself.
Brick of coir = 6-7 qts.....so half brick = 3-3.5 qts.
You can't look at a tub and say ....I think this many qts will make 4 inches.
There is a mathematical formula to figure that out or...add qts of water to see how much sub you want.

if you want to know how much volume fills 4 inch of the tub you need to measure the bottom. 1dm3 = 1 litre. 1dm3 = 10cm x 10cm x 10cm. 10cm = 4 inches. if the tub is 10 x 10 inch square in the bottom that equals 25 x 25cm. 2,5 dm times 2,5 dm times 1,0 dm (the 4" height) = 6,25 litres (quarts)
if the metric system converting is confusing just add quarts of water up to the 4" mark, and count how many quarts it took.
I'd recommend using 3". IME 4" performs no better than 3", just wasting sub and grain.

Well sir, I use.....5 gallon or so totes for my mini monos. I use a full brick of coir, 2 quarts verm and that makes 2 mini monos. So If I was you, I would use half a brick of coir and 1 quart of verm.
The holes just mark off 4 inches and either do holes like a shotgun fruiting chamber or the 1.5" holes and go high/low.

i do a few calculations to figure out how much coir and verm to use.. you generally want to use this ratio 1 brick coir to 2 quarts verm to 4 quarts water.
first find the area of your tub.. this can simply be done by measuring the two widths of the tub. X= width #1 Y= width #2 Z = area of your monotub X x Y = Z
the normal area of a monotub is 1880 so to figure out the ratio of your monotub simply devide 1880 by Y
1880 รท Y = R
R = ratio
R x .1 = T
so to figure out how much of your ingredients to use multiply by T..
For me:(these numbers were rounded) Coir(1 x T)(you will get a decimal number this is the amount you want to use from a coir brick) if you get .5 then you chop off half. Verm(2 x T) water(4 x T)

normal area of a tub? All my tubs are different in size. measure your area in decimeters. since 4" = 1dm, your area in dm equals the volume in litres needed to fill 4" up. 3" = 0,75dm.

it just gives you something to compare it to.. thats the size tub i would use one full brick of coir on..

haha damn good info guys, appreciate it. i think the jist of it is this though.. use half a brick of coir, a quart of so of verm, and 2 quarts of water. ill measure the tub and see how it pans out, but i figure this is close enough.
now when you guys mention a brick of coir.. is a brick always a standard size? i wasnt sure, which is why i kept mentioning that it was a 650g brick lol.
and as far as holes go; i was going to set it up similar to a SGFC. Do you think its better this way than to make it like a standard monotub?

yea if its ecoearth then it comes in 650g bricks... and yes half brick to 1 quart verm and 2 quarts water is a perfect ratio and should work just fine with that minimono. good luck.
with the holes... do not make them like a sgfc. this will create problems. make them like a monotub but scale the holes down to half the size.
