Help with cultivating parasitic fungi (tremella fuciformis)
    #19118067 - 11/10/13 11:41 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

hello all, Ive been very interested in growing this guy.

Ive read a few pdf on it and understand that annulhypoxylon archeri must be cultivated first then a very minor amount of t.fuciformis mycelium added..

or it can be done the other way by inoculating t.fuciformis with a.archeri.

I know this is all very exact and difficult to accomplish but I wanna do it so i wanted to get any advice or other links on the subject.

I have found these locally fairly easy and it is said in a document i read that both fungi should be cloned from the same log for some reason.

dug this up on the wikipedia i had to look it up wasnt familliar with that fungus

Modern production only began, however, with the realization that both the Tremella and its host species needed to be inoculated into the substrate to ensure success. The "dual culture" method, now used commercially, employs a sawdust mix inoculated with both fungal species and kept under optimal conditions.

Interesting post. Maybe there is some similar type of symbiosis/parasitism necessary for morel fruiting as well...

So are you planning on just plating both species on the same plate? or is it more complicated than that?

ya pretty much,

or gonna do a lc ratio like paul .S did i think it was 24 drops t. fuciformis in a liter of a.archeri LC...
that one sounds the easiest but still kinda varies on how thick each his lcs were...

other way is to just barely touch t.fuciformis and then inoculate on a.acrheri in a tube then let incubate for a few days and put on rye then supposedly let colonize and start to fruit in jar..

if it produces healthy fuciformis fruitbodies then use to expand to more rye then i would assume just wood based sub.. im gonna do kukui tree or candle nut tree..
you can crack open a nut and start it on fire. burns for hour or 2.

Anyways i just figured RR or other TC's would jump all over this and tell me how hard it is and that im not experienced enough.. hah well thats my general plan atm. i have both fungi outside on some sticks just waitin

why not try the sawdust mix as per the wiki? they said it gives the most reliable results.
