I think my jars have stalled 1

I have some rye berry jars that seem to have stalled at around 90% colonization.
Should I go ahead and spawn them to bulk?
I don't know if it makes any difference but I'm using High Mountain Compost

Get out the sharpie and mark the edge. Then check it in a couple days. If it hasn't moved then you know for sure it's stalled. I wouldn't spawn anything that's stalled because first you don't know why it stalled, could be contamed, and second, uncolonized grains will be easy pickins for contams move in and set up shop.

You need to shake them up.
They appear wet and unhealthy though. Can you get a smell?
See what happens after the shake.
Also, I wouldn't trust micropore tape as a GE filter with grains.

How long since you inoculated? I've found that a grain jar left for too long will eventually have an errant endospore germinate and bacteria will take over. I discovered that with a ps mexicana jar where all the wedges ended up on one side of the jar, and since I didn't want to shake em I just let it go. 6 weeks later and I found bacteria forming in the bottom corner opposite the wedges.

If you g2g with uncolonized grains, those uncolonized kernels might sit for another two weeks in the receiving jar before the mycelium gets to them, thus they're outside their window, and more likely to contaminate.
Let the jars fully colonize. Being in a hurry never benefits mycology. RR

I've shaken them that's def not the problem.
I guess I'll just spawn em and see what happens
Why do you say micropore tape isn't good enough.

One layer of micropore is not considered enough to filter the contams properly, two layers restricts GE too much.

Shake em, see if they recover and finish. If they do then spawn em. If they don't, start over.

In my opinion, the best solution is SFD's.
Micropore tape is okay for pf tek because you re primarily depending on the dry vermiculite as a contam barrier anyway.
You grain jars don't have this contam barrier and need a proper filter.

I'm also very curious about this. I ended up with a couple extra qts of sterilized grains 3 weeks ago so I just stuck it up in my cupboard and I've been watching it. So far it's still clean

Give em another 6 weeks and then see. It did take a long time. The only reason I saw it, was with p mex, a slow species that didn't like a shake. Of course other things can happen as well, like mold spores working through the filter. That would suck too.

I have a few qt jars the same thing inside a temp. control cardboard box. After 3 weeks they seem to stalled so I put them to the test. I put them all under a warm window with filter sunlight. Within one week they all colonized out the WBS. Yeah, the WBS all turned black too from waiting too long inside these jars. No sign of any mold or contam though. Filtered sunlight = life. Try it to see.
