Ultra fast colonizer? Or just lucky?
    #19115351 - 11/10/13 03:02 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

These are both from MS syringes. The 6 on the right were done 14 days ago and look normal. I had a bit of a syringe left over but didn't have enough cakes so I did another batch a week later. Substrate mixed exactly the same way. Same procedure for both batches using the same batch of ingredients.

The 4 on the left were MS inoculated 5 days ago and are close to 100%. Did I just get lucky?

Here in a closer shot of the 4 on the left:

I was thinking the same thing, but it's not just 4 jars, but I have 16 of them and it's doing it for all of them. I just showed 4 for ease. The myc looks healthy the way I would expect it to look.

Could hydration of the spores affect colonization times? I did have the spores in a solution for 7 days longer than the other batch.

I have never heard of a cake being that fully colonized in 5 days.

I just don't see how it's possible, even by a contaminant.

How long were they sitting before you inoculated them?

Made the cakes, PC'ed them that night, went to bed, did it the next day. Usual ritual. They aren't fully colonized. I'd say most are 50-90%.

I'm going to give them at the very least another week (probably 2) before fruiting.

Like I said, I did NOTHING different. It was a bit more humid/raining the day I did the first batch.
