Hey fox die,  I put my allenii on a window screen and then put a box fan face down on the ground.  Set the screen on top of the fan and turn it on low.  I keep my heater about a foot away so they don't get hot but have Luke warm air circulating around them.  It drys them out really well.

I do it similarly, but I find if I raise the fan a bit (~6 inches) the process is faster. I only kick on the heat at the end to get em to cracker consistency.

Definitely; If the intake side of the fan is obstructed, you will not only have less air movement to dry your mushrooms, but you will damage the fan motor in the long run.

Since you don't need all that much air movement overall for reasonably small collections [e.g. 1lb of candy caps, but not 10lb of chanterelles] you could easily rig something up with a CPU/Case fan and cardboard.

www.freecycle.org... keep your eye out there for a while there you'll find box fans, windows screens, mason jars, pressure cookers, etc. Writing want ads usually doesn't accomplish much IME, but if you're patient, you'll find all sorts of cool free stuff. It beats the hell out of the free section on craigslist, and is a much more tight-knit, flake-free community.

I just lay them all out on paper near my room heater and that does the job. Ill occasionally open the window a few times with a fan pointing out to get fresh air and they dry pretty quick. Id say within one night or one day.

As for chants and morels I use my nesco dehydrator

A friend gave me this a while a go.

I have't made one yet.

Pretty much I use a fan and light heat source for drying.

first time eating wild picked cyans (100% cyans i should say, had a couple thrown in with cubes the first time).  ate 1.4 dried grams.  Wasn't super visual but my god was I responsive to the music and sounds around me.  It was intense with great highs and dark lows.  Lots of laughs, a few tears and all around a great experience.  it had been about 5 years since I last tripped.  I forgot what a journey it can be.

Just wanted to share.

Yeah, thanks for the link. My allenii dried just fine using my barebones, simple method so I'll stick with that.  I'll try and remember to use that site for other stuff in the future.

For all the ones we picked;  I put them in an open ended cardboard box
on it's side and hole cut in the top.
Then, I place a fan right up to the open end on high (I never use heat)
and give it about a day.
These ones came out cracker crisp.
Just to go the extra mile (for the ones I'm gonna store),
I move to a desiccant chamber (Tupparware container, layer of silica
gel stuff for drying flowers from the craft store, some 1.5" tall
cuts of PVC pipe laid on the desiccant, then a sheet of screen from
an old window screen on the PCV to separate the silica from ever
touching the mushrooms.
After that, lid goes on and they sit for a few days until the silica
gel/sand turns blue (it's color activated by moisture).
And then... I open the container, dry the desiccant according to
the package it came in and repeat the process until all the silica
gel stops changing color (then I KNOW there's NO moisture left in
the tupperware).

Maybe I'm a little on the anal side - but it does the job and it's cheap.

I'm pretty sure I found a bunch of stuntzii on the lawn in front of the building where I work. I picked one on the way out to my car this evening.

Would anyone please help with an ID? The pics below show the top and bottom of the same mushroom.

Thanks

Yup - Ringer (stunzii).

But...  If you wanna be uber careful, take a spore
print and wait for a trusted identifier.
