Yes, of course! Just none from the Central Valley. I'm speaking of central Fresno area by the way, and the San Joaquin River Valley trails. The only places I can see anything growing is on the side of the highways under eucalyptus patches and hidden in wood chip mulch throughout parks and neighborhoods, but I haven't found a single active! Only the usual suspects and some honey mushrooms growing rampant in an apartment complex. :/

They're all from the central valley

Get out and hit those woodchip beds!

I have a lot more confidence after this rain we've had. A couple days of light showers here and there will greatly increase my chances of finding something! I'm getting a camera for Christmas so hopefully I'll have a bunch of pics up by next month.

5. Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather.
This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting.
As a general rule of thumb, if it has rained within the last 1-10 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, and the time of year is correct then it is very likely that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.

From this thread.

Nice photographs Ran-D.

You won't find any actives in areas like that, along the rivers. But I have found lots of variety, usually a bit later in the season after more rain, among the groves of oak trees that are along the rivers in the area. Even if most of the mushrooms are relatively common, I still have fun getting out there and finding a bunch of different mushrooms within an hour.

I went out around my area yesterday looking for actives and to see what's poppin' up, found a few indicator species and that was it. I didn't see a whole lot of mushrooms in general. Checked my patch that was fruiting last year for the first time, it's an irrigated area, nothing going on there yet but noticed that entire area has been loaded with a new layer of wood chips.

About to head out for a bit to check another area.

Well I found hundreds (maybe thousands) of untouched woodlovers. Cluster after cluster, it was unreal.
Check out the massive set in this first picture, you could literally lay something down on top of this solid bed of caps.

Sorry the pictures really suck. I didn't want to spend too much time paying attention to one type of mushroom, too many people around. I want this patch to continue untouched like this so they can spread those spores far and wide for everyone else to enjoy

Do allenii have hollow stems? I looked around and couldn't find anything on it, but I think I may have found my first patch. And Ran-D, I'd definitely be lying if I said I wasn't jelly.

If the stems are brittle and hollow you probably have a Psathyrella or something. The blue bruising should be pretty obvious if you found allenii or cyans. Anyway, just post some pictures and we can tell ya!

Nice man!....Some motivation & encouragement right there :smirk: .

I've covered a decent amount of area in the past few days. Have only seen a few indicator species (like literally only a few of what I'm assuming are dried up Leratiomyces ceres, here and there), other than that everything still seems way dry in every area I've "hunted".

I have found lots of prime areas that I'll be scoping out through the season though.

.....and not to go on about the weather, but if we were to get a cold snap before the moisture gets here, would that pretty much put an end to everything?

I do eat some of the good edible species I hunt, but even then, it's mostly about getting out with my camera.
