Mushroom hunting in San Diego

Hello! I wasn't exactly sure whether or not this post breaks the forum rules as I am not asking for any specifics, and I have not found the information I need by searching previous posts. I would like to know what general areas in the San Diego grow Mushrooms; like national parks, public places etc. etc. Nothing specific just a location as a starting point Also, I mean any fungi; they don't need to be edible nor psychadelic. My goal is to better understand the identification and classification of mushrooms in general, and I don't intend to ingest any of my findings. Heck, they can be deadly poisonous for all I care because they're for research purposes only. I just want to devote a leisurely day where I can go out on a foray without straying too far from home. The only problem is I haven't a clue where to start. Usually when I go looking for mushrooms, I wait after a heavy rainfall and go around the neighborhood, but I wanted to try something different. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

San Diego is so dry right now I havent been able to find anything outside of commonly irrigated places. Presumably when the rain picks up things will start to come out though.
Otherwise, look anywhere irrigated... Parks, schools, public places, etc.
In total this season, I have seen maybe 4 species of fungi. There are Pisolithus tinctorius everywhere, and various agarics popping out of grassy lawns. If you're lucky, maybe you can find a tree stump in an area that gets irrigated and I'm sure you'll find something.

Parks and more natural areas are going to be your best bet. Anywhere with lots of decaying plant matter and water. That's fungi food, and that's where you'll find them.
You better get lots of pics and species, and bring them back to show off.

In San Diego, pretty much anywhere that has trees is a good place to hunt when it rains. As the above poster said, when its not raining, irrigated areas are good. Cemetaries often irrigate a lot and even have trees too.
Here are a few threads about San Diego mushrooms:

Make sure to check out the San Diego Mycological Society. And do not miss their fungus fair or the forays immediately before it.
A good place to get locations is to search for San Diego on mushroomobserver.org. That way you can see where other people hunt.
Also check google earth / maps for green areas and trees near you.
When it rains the San Diego mushrooms are really pretty cool, I have seen several things there that I have not seen anywhere else.
Also consider heading north to LA for the LA mycological society meetings and forays. Good people also.
