I ordered some new syringes and decided to upgrade to the Supercharge Syringes. It sounded cool but I have no idea what supercharging the actually does???

Never heard of them.. What is the supposed difference? Sounds like a marketing ploy to me... Surely spores are spores, I don't think more will cause faster growth necessarily..

I know what you are talking about, i recommend next time you buy spores from sponsors of the site. Its best to just buy a normal spore syringe, if im correct supercharging just means more spores in the syringe.

Ah I see, and more spores is probably unnecessary?

If there are spores, they will grow.. There are presumably 1,000,000's in a syringe anyway, don't see how a few thousand more will make any difference beyond a possible variation in genetics which is going to be impossible to prove/quantify anyhow...
Sounds like a con to me, I assume they cost more?

I know where this syringe came from, and the site is known for 'conning' apparently, but the spore syringe i bought from them worked just fine so dont think doubtfully. Its best to just be patient. My first and current grow took around 3 and a half weeks to fully colonize, with no problems or contamination. Good luck!

More spores is often detrimental. I like to put one drop on agar, transfer as small a sliver from the fastest edge and use the next plate to inoculate. This cuts the number of genetics down to the hundreds and will consistently out perform jars that have 1000's fired into them. All those competing strains are counterproductive IMO.

lol my friend actually ordered this supercharged syringe a few weeks ago too after i told him it was probably pointless. But he received it and his jars grew great, nothing out of the ordinary though like faster colonization or something. But they worked fine, so im guessing it was just a way for the company to snag a few extra bucks off the customer. Hope this helps!

Please don't freeze your spores syringes.

They probably don't do anything different but if they do this is food for thought.
a regular sponsor syringe can be expanded 10 fold, I'll take one and squirt it into a Pc'd jar with 90-100CC of h2o and then suck that up into 10 syringes and they all work just fine. I'm not a fan of using syringes at all anymore anyway but a normal one is quite potent. If they do "supercharge" you may be able to get 20+ out of it if you so chose to do so in a way that wont introduce contamination.

Ah I see. So this agar wedge thing is a much better way to go about growing mushrooms?

Agar can be a messy, time wasting pain in the behind too.. For beginners, get a few grows under your belt, learn about sterile technique and then look into agar/plates/slants etc.

Yea it's not a great place to start until you have some experience doing things the easier way. Not that agar is hard it's just not as easy.

Yeah, it can just be a little discouraging getting contam'd plates and maybe thinking that growing in jars is going to be as vulnerable a vector as using plates.
Once you see how easy jars are, the confidence and experience should make the whole agar thang easier to get your head around.

Not necessarily true. Yes firing spores into a pf jar is about as easy as it gets. But following a no pour tek and building an SAB is not hard either and will help cut down on contams and teach good sterile technique.
I did 12 cakes and when I got my first flush from my last cake I cloned a couple fruits and used the last 2 drops in my syringe to nock up some plates. I then took my own prints and did not buy another syringe/print until months later when I wanted to expand my varieties. My only regret was not starting with agar from the beginning. Fact is that there are some great teks out there now that I only wish were around when I was starting agar and cloning.
Is growing brf cakes bad for noobs? No its a got an easy curve and will produce fruits most of the time. Is agar 100% necessary? Not at all, there have been many people who never feel the need to move past cakes. Is agar hard? Its as hard as you make it. Is agar worthwhile? Absolutely, its the only guaranteed clean inoculate, and the best way to get consistent results.
