well the answer could vary thus changing the results of the polls. for instance i don't think rights should ever be able to be taken away. But currently they can be

I can't vote now because I cast a blank vote before :kingcrankey:

Also, I would say that my answers would vary depending on the actual context of the rights in question.

Thats my point. It will skew the results unless we have some kind of standardization.

My poll point wasn't designed to give consistent results.  It was to get a feeling of how people perceive rights.

That's what I thought. I answered the way I thought it should be even though that has no basis in reality

I think we should cut all the social parasites from their welfare checks. Then they will either find a means to support themselves or starve to death, either of wich is good for the economy and society.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

Your first question was difficult, I have argued with Phred extensively some time ago about it.  You only have the rights you can secure and they can only be secured through government.  If you think you have rights outside of a government structure try it sometime.  If you can't exercise them you don't have them and the only way you can exercise them, unless you are Attila, is through the government.

Man, I was really thinking this thread would be about rights, not another thread where you express your butthurt over social welfare.

The social welfare bums think they have a right to my money.  That is a legit question regarding property rights and you more than anyone else are the exemplar of that.

The government, of course, gives rights...at least some of them.  A right to own property, for instance, can only exist within the context of a government that recognizes property rights.

I'd love to know who the geniuses are that think inanimate objects have rights.
