A few questions on things that I have read up on

I've just inoculated a few jars and I'm here to ask some questions! Thanks for any help/replies in advance
I've heard mixed opinions using the search function on a few topics:
- Tall 1/2 pint jars make cakes that break apart or need to be handled very carefully during the birthing process ( I couldn't find any wide 1/2 pints.. \: )
- Tall 1/2 pint jars sometimes will not fully "colonize with mycelium" ( I forgot the term, I think that's the right one though )
- During the wait period where you wait for the mycelium to colonize, again I forgot the exact phrase used, it needs to be at a specific temperature ( My walk-in closet is quite cold )
Again thanks for any responses, it's only been a day since I've inoculated so I'll post in here if anything seems to go wrong later on.

The tall jars will work just load the brf/verm mixture in very loose. Of course the short fat 1/2 pints Are better. You can get them at Ace hardware or Amazon.com
Anywhere between 65 and 80 degrees is fine for colonization. Don't go over 80

It's about 67 where I have the jars kept. Hoping it doesn't take too long for them to colonize

Well they'll definitely colonize a little faster at 75 to 80 but what's the rush. They'll be done soon enough

as i recall 84.6 is optimum temp for cubes, as it is a sub tropical species
i incubate at 80-84, and often crop 78-80.
i refuse to grow below a guaranteed 76 degrees. because its just too slow IMO.
you can fruit invitro. no need to birth anything.
any container will fully colonize if conditions are right, and the jar is prepped properly.

hey op,
I am in my first grow and I used the tall half pints.
I found that inoculating with 0.5cc instead of 0.25cc, per hole, helped colonization go faster.

none of my 8 jars have stalled
Mine sat behind my comp monitors which is around 74 degrees so I cant help you there.
good luck

could you send me a link or explain the process of fruiting in the jars?

Another question my friends, when should I expect to see any activity in the jars after inoculation? As in, even the slightest sign of growth.

So I've read the issue with the tall jars is that all the material compresses on the bottom of the jars. Could this possibly be fixed by keeping the jars on their sides? Just an idea, I've never done the pf tek so don't think this is some kind of advice.

not really upside down sometimes helps
what happens is, peeps over wet the sub, then PC forever, and it makes the bottoms too dense. naturally its worse in taller jars.
we get around all this, by using PP5 containers, and shallow subs.

then , it is not an issue.
these were PC 35 minits , and grew out evenly.

I used the "talls" by mistake as well.
First time around I was constantly picking the jars up and checking them (like that was going to make them colonize faster). I had a few of them that had a part on the bottom that took an EXTRA long time to finish.
My second batch, I made sure to load the jars loose, and then I didn't mess with them for 2 weeks. Then I carefully checked a couple, and then let them set another week till they were done. They turned out much better. GL
Peace

thanks for the words of experience, I always appreciate that
anyways I've packed mine very loosely, or at least the way that RR did in his videos. I think I will take your advice and not check on them for 2 weeks, might make the wait a bit easier

Update: I read that I may not have enough air flow in my jars for the mycelium to colonize properly, so I removed the tape that I had over the holes on the lid.

bumping the thread to ask if anyone has any idea why the jars dont show any signs of colonization? \:
I can see some spores within one of the jars clearly (as in a clump, but not a very large clump, I made sure to shake the syringes very well) but I see absolutely no sign of mycelium growth whatsoever... kinda bummed out. Am I just being impatient?
