Habitat: I found it out in a more of an open woods,on a cold day, over in West Virginia. Growing out of the ground, they were in little groups. I can get more pictures if needed.
Gills: They were white? Kinda blue/purple at the bottom, it draped around it like a skirt.

Sorry for such the lack of information, but I plan on going back out to the park later and checking on these things again, so ill grab some more information.

Coprinus comatus, or very like. A tasty, but delicate edible when fresh.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

I stay away from coprinus because I heard there are unpleasant symptoms when consumed with alcohol. And I normally have a couple beers in the evening.

That phenomenon is associated almost exclusively with a single species which is not even in Coprinus any longer.
The compound responsible has been isolated and is not present in Coprinus.

The notable exceptions are interesting; specifically Pholiota and the Psathyrella in the Gordon Hilman incident; particularly the later. The identification of Psathyrella in that case did not seem particularly solid, and the effects he described are a little more interesting [sounding as he described them like a combination of anxiety stress and a mild psilocybian effect]. Neither of these exceptions seem to involve coprinoid species in any event.
