Human waste was found in this whale and his cause of death was intestinal blockage. I know it's not the first time humans have killed something as a byproduct of our growing but... Damn, 37 pounds of plastic in one animal.

LOL. As the person above me said, there was no math involved. I believe JohnM was trying to say that the whale should have learned after eating 36 pounds of plastic that it was bad for it. That last pound could have been what killed it.

The whales do weight like 72,000 pounds It's be like if a human ate a pebble, whale might have already had intestinal problems to begin with. It ate ~0.0005% of its weight in plastic

anyway, back to the oceans and garbage... the article states that, estimated in 1975, 14 billion pounds of garbage are added each year. think about that number for a second.
14 billion pounds. that is staggering. this on top of the warming and acidification of our oceans... well i dont know if they will be around in 40 years. in that time frame, most fish stocks will be depleted at our current rate of consumption...
is this something you want to go on? i surely don't, there's a lot we need to change as a species. avoiding plastics would be a start, considering that plastic is not really biodegradable... better trash management would be another... then building cars with better fuel systems would be a major one too, along with a population cap put on like.. right now.
it might even be best that we reduce our population by a lot, (gradually, not through genocide, duh)
