Alright cool, I'm hoping Monday I'll get a chance to go out and look, I know of a lot of roads that have gates and the alders are thick along them.  I'm thinking that will be a good place to start.

When you find P. pelliculosa it is really important to measure the spore size.

Psilocybe silvatica grows in the same habitats and is apparently pretty common.

What?!?!?  I've never thought of cultivating them.  Did you use just a standard outdoor tek?

yep, my standards outdoor tek is, try indoors, when shit goes wrong burry it,cover it,soak it walk away.
i had a sub of chopped straw/conifer bark mulch colonized with pellie myc but it was during our heat wave here and it had succumb to some sort of bacteria, so i burried it and covered with some soaked sticks followed by a tarp which was removed a couple weeks ago,:I GOT FRUITS!

That's a great way to utilize a failed indoor project.  I like it!  Thanks :hotidea:

That's exactly the problem. Not many people are bothering to look for them. Naturally they won't be finding them. They probably share a mostly overlapping range with pelliculosa and a lot of their finds probably just get chalked up as the latter species.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Great finds Maynard, I went searching for them today in a older clearcut and didnt find any, but there was a ton of other mushrooms to check out, it was still alot of fun.

I got a bunch more spots in mind to check out though. Ill hopefully find some next time.
