Lining and Side pinning question

I was wondering, how does lining the sub, preventing side pinning improve flushes?
If the sides of the tub where the sub's pulled away is the perfect micro-climate, how come it isn't ideal to leave it like this?
What are the advantages of having them all pin off the top (don't get me wrong, i'm sure there are) if a more ideal fruiting conditions can be introduced along the sides?
Reasons I can think of...
-more even pinsets -more surface area for pins to form -more fresh air at the top
so is there a difference between optimal pinning conditions and optimum "growing/maturing" conditions?
So maybe the side's better for pin formation but the top of sub's better at maturing the fruiting bodies?
Can you get aborts because the top starts going off with pins, but as the substrate shrinks the side becomes ideal causing the mycelium to transfer its energy to the fruiting bodies at the side, thus leaving the pins already formed at the top to wither away?
I guess I started thinking aloud, Any input would be appreciated!

You will get more flushes(in theory) without big ass divots in the substrate.
Harvesting side pins can be devastating to some substrates...sometimes they leave you with no choice on harvesting, and they must be pulled.
When this happens, chunks of substrate come with it. This is not a good thing.

I'm just on my 2nd round of mini monos and when I was spawning my grains the liners slipped so I just went without them. I'm looking forward to seeing what the difference will be in harvest from last time. Last time I took the liners off after the first flush so I could dunk the sub.

interesting yea i've been trying to slide my scalpel down the sides to chop em off, sometimes it works, sometimes it's kind of a disaster... well i'm lining my sub next time so we'll see how it goes. let us know how your grow turns out refried
