... cyanescens?

Hello myco-friendly people! Long time lurker, 1st time poster... found these beautiful mushrooms alongside a pathway system in the woods here in the heart of the Pacific Northwest... They appeared to be growing from woodchips at the side of the trail (saw this once I moved the fallen leaves). The spore print is a dark purplish blue colour and the mushroom does bruise (also dark purplish blue)... Please lemme know if you'd like more pics.
Anyway, I've a sneaking suspicion these are P. Cyanescens... But I'm no expert. Thoughts? http://

That had better not be my newest patch! Stay out! lol. Anyways yeah looks like P. cyanescens. Be good to that patch! Don't go trampling everything! However if it is the spot I'm thinking of, it's sort hard not to trample.

Sweet! Thank-you kindly for the confirmation and I promise I'll be good to 'em They're hiding in a good spot, just off the beaten path, so hoping they'll stay all cozy & safe there...!

I wonder if there is some benefit to the sting, like is claimed for bee or other venoms? Do you feel more invincible after suffering the slings and arrows, etc etc?

Mmmmm, nah. Bee stings get me kind of high though. Then I swell up like a balloon. A big itchy painful balloon.

That would be a histamine high?

Pain can get me high under the right conditions, but I'd rather get it in a way that doesn't give me blisters afterwards. Either I'm especially sensitive to nettles or the six-footers in the town I grew up in were abnormally nasty, and I don't intend to find out which is the case.

Stinging nettle has anti-histamine properties, especially when combined with Vit. C, & Quercentin (spelling?), but I expect it's kinda like homeopathics... you take a small dose internally in order to stave off negative effects of other allergens...
The effect they have on you, topically, is a strong histamine reaction, much like a scratch from a cat's claws to someone allergic to cats.. increased inflammation, swelling, and irritation.
Internal consumption of nettle preparations would likely reduce the reaction while hunting the same way allergy shots kill off reaction to allergic compounds. Regular exposure to small doses of allergens, in most cases, makes them less able to affect you once you've built a tolerance to their effects.

If you grab the leaves quickly and firmly between your fingers the needles cannot get you.
Wad it up and it is a nice snack. Full of vitamins from what I hear.

Admittedly the blister resulted from poor judgment. Went right up to a nice tall plant and touched my knuckle to the stem, very lightly (didn't know then that this was the worst way to do it), to see what would happen. If I decide to try eating nettles, they will be picked with gloves on and cooked thoroughly.

If you blanch or flame them breifly, the needles soften and then they absolutely can not sting you.
They are quite tasty.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
