Coir always fruits early

I had always used hpoo for all my grows and had awesome results. A few months ago i switched to coir. I love how cheap and easy it is to work with. But all my monos keep pinning at about 50%. Is this a common problem? The mono is in a closet with no light, and no air movement. Advice would be helpful, as this is getting frustrating. Id also like to point out that the monos show no sign of contams, and i can often still get 2-3 flushes outve them with no competing bacteria showing up. I just want pearly white 100% colonization!

Some air movement for the sub is always a good way at replacing oxygen, which your sub needs to fully colonize. Probably speed it up a bit.

What do you mean top layer? I do not case. Are you suggesting not putting any spawn bear the top of my tubs? Ive just never heard of a top layer, not sure what you mean.

From what you described was happening we assumed you were using a top layer

He never said he used "casing" or a "top layer", But please do not place a spawn bear on top of your tub or this might happen

I guess i do kindve do that. I always put a layer of bulk on top of my grains. How would not doing this help my problem? And should i just leave grains exposed then?

Well the question would be - how do you believe adding that layer will help in your cultivation of cubes?

it will colonize faster and more evenly, people use to use sterilized coir as a casing layer but from what i can guesstimate is whats underneathe has colonized and now has the top layer giving what it believes to be your sub 100% humidity on the surface as for exposed grains it's not an issue with cubes

Just mix it all up evenly and youll see faster colonization times and better results. Don't worry about a few exposed grains. It won't be a problem

How will a casing layer help the rest of the substrate colonise faster? It's just more to colonise. I don't believe a "casing layer" provides additional hydration or protects grains going dry or contam (which I think were the old rationales for the casing layer). Your exposed surface will be about 100% humidity anyway - why give it the extra work and extra colonising time?

Oh sorry - just read back over the thread. My bad and apologies. Someone needs to put me to bed and my "booty call" (I think that's what you yanks call it) appears to have failed.
