OregonBlueShroom said: Can anybody confirm if #2 is matsutake? I kind of want to try them but im not sure. The smell is hard to describe but kind of spicy like radishes but also kind of bad. Im bad at describing smells but i dont think they smell like cinnamon.
Is it bitter to the taste? Looks like matsutake, doesn't sound like matsutake.

@ Canid, i tried a small amount last night after reading in another thread about how matsu peels like a string cheese. mine matched the description, tasted pretty good and nice firm texture. Im pretty sure they are matsu ill be going back for more in a little bit.
And spore prints are done.. Im pretty nervous since both of them have similar sounding spore print colors I have no idea which one it is.. heres hoping to gymnopilus.. the spore print to me appears mostly brown with an orangish shade to it, the ones on foil look alot more orange than on paper.

Went back to grab a few more to dry for microscopy and found a bunch of big ones in nearby area. I kind of think they are pholiota after seeing a bunch of them but ill wait for one of you pros to tell me

Those are certainly Matsutake. The other ones certainly look like gyms, but with that spore print I would think Pholiota.

I wonder if it could be G. sordidostipes? I'd really like part of this collection if you are willing, OBS.

for sure Gravija. Im going to send some to both you and Joust, if anybody else wants to look i can probably send more.
At this point what do you think of the spore prints Gravija, will it come down to microscopy to tell if this is a Gym or Pholiota?

I'm home now looking at these prints on my computer as opposed to my phone. There is some orange in there I could not detect before. I'm curious what they turn out to be.

They remind me a little bit of these that I found last year.

I created a mushroom observer link for these and put it in with both samples and spore prints, they will be in the mail on Monday. Looking forward to hearing some results.
