This is what I sent to a random....

Hi Hacker!

StromriderS said i should give you a shout about GH. I hope that's Okay? Any who my situation is this: This is my 3rd GH setup and i did everything like all the previous other than a new humidifier.

Setup:
GH 4 tier (in a closet, so not my air exchange)
holes all over (SGFC style)
Tubed in humidifier
Light on the side (I have no space for it above)
LIght is a 12 on 12 off timer
humidifier runs 30min every 2hrs (my timer only does 30min intervals.)

Im having pinning problems. I think its due to the lack of FAE, which is making it super wet inside FC. I just found out (realized!) that the humidifier that I had is an ultasonic and does not provide FAE like my previous humidifiers...

Ive been keeping the FC at 90-100% humidity

What should I do about FAE? how would you set yours up to counteract this problem?

Thanks hacker!!

Make sure you read this https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17332777#17332777

Here is you a little overview of monotubs

I use the 66qt all clear sterilite tubs. You take the tub and make 6 2 inch holes in it. 2 on each long side about 4 inches from the bottom and about 4 inches from the end. 1 hole on each short side as high as you can get it. The holes get taped shut during colonization and then stuffed with polyfill once fully colonized. I use 1 brick of coir, 2 qts of verm, a handful of gypsum, with 5 qts of water.

I pasteurize that and put it in the tub with 6 qts of fully colonized grain spawn ans mix it evenly. It usually takes about a week to colonize. Then I pull the tape off the holes and stuff the bottom holes tight and the top holes loose with polyfill. Then I put it under a 6500k light with 12 hours on and 12 hours off and watch the magic happen. No need to mist or fan. I do mist once a day after the first flush though

So at the end of all my shenanigans!

I should:

a)Increase FAE.
b)Not worry so much about humidity levels.
c)switch to monotubes.
d)Keep my shit wired tight!

OR

e) all of the above!!!!!

hahahhahahahaha

Thank you!!! You guys are badass!!!!

Ambient light during colonization is fine

Keeping them in darkness hasn't been "the usual" for 10+ years.

Jars/bags/tubs/trays should colonize @ room temperature getting ambient/indirect light.

Main pinning triggers are full colonization, FAE and Evaporation off of the substrate.

Light is a secondary pinning trigger. For tropical species temperature is not a pinning factor.

P. Cubensis are a tropical species. You could colonize at 70F and fruit at 80F with great results.

Light has been proven beneficial during all stages of mycellium growth. Mushrooms like mammals have a circadian rhythm.

You want ambient/indirect light(on a 12/12 schedule preferably) for colonization and consolidation.

You want direct/intense 6500K light on a 12/12 schedule for fruiting.

Optimal temps are mid 70s throughout the whole grow, but anywhere from 65F-80F is acceptable.

Incubation is outdated/uneeded unless temps in the range stated above cannot be kept.

The inside of the jar is always a few degrees warmer than the outside because the mycellium produces heat..mycellium tends to stall at temps above 86F , and contams thrive.

Fruiting at cooler temps tends to produce denser, meatier fruits, while fruiting at higher temps will often produce hollow, less dense stems.

Mycelium should be exposed to ambient room light from day of inoculation as has been known for many years.  Light is not a pinning trigger until after full colonization and an increase in air is given, and even then it's a secondary pinning trigger.

Monotubs is where you want to be.

I am a busy guy with way too many time consuming hobbies and that is what makes monotubs so attractive to me. They're so simple and efficent. They require very little attention

What they say

But how important is it for you to save THOSE trays and make them pin?
Because if that's a major point...

Start fanning them, start drying the substrate... It may be too wet and you may have some catching up to do.
