Gym sp ID Request
    #19106695 - 11/08/13 05:00 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Habitat: Southwest PA, fallen tree, mixed hardwood forest

Gill: *see pic

Stem: *

Cap:*

Spore print color: *

Bruising: *

Other information: Found 3 clusters on same log. 1 alone with a bunch of aborts. A group of 4 & 2.
I know they might be too far gone to ID, but I thought maybe a few experts wwould be able to confirm if these are Gym sp.

Given the orange spores on the stipe, and the apparent bruising at the base I would think yes. They appear to be some sort of Gymnopilus.  But certainly they are too far gone to consider eating.

Yes, I completely understand. I went on a 2hr hunt, not really looking for anything in particular, and I came across these. I had a crazy feeling that they might be a Gymnopilus Sp., but didnt want to get my hopes up. There just seems to be so many mushrooms with rusty brown\orange spores, that to see them half gone was frustrating, for ID.

I have absolutely no intention of consumption. Why would I when I can have

Frost bit everything hard a couple days ago. Had some precept, but only Galerina seem to be fresh, and thriving :undecided:
