Gymnopilus species identification
    #19106502 - 11/08/13 04:20 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Habitat: Baltic states, mixed forest, they were growing on stump.

Gills and stem: I assume a picture will pretty much sum everything up

Cap: as you can see this fruit has a ~6cm cap, but there was one individual from this group (it isn't in pics) which had about ~12cm diameter cap.

(sorry for quality)

Spore print color: I haven't made spore print :/

Bruising: no bruising.

Other information: I tasted it a little bit then spitted it out, taste was bitter, smell was a bit like Polyporales species, at least of those which grow in my country.

These seem close to Gymnopilus penetrans/sapineus.

Is it worth consuming them? I mean are they even active? Do they even contain psilocybin or psilocin? Quantity is not a problem  or maybe it's more efficient to prepare them in some specific manner? :mushroom2:

In my opinion they would not be worth consuming. The psychoactivity of this species group seems undetermined as of yet and Gymnopilus can be unpleasant enough to ingest from the taste/texture (though making a good batch of tea can be ok if done right).

:whathesaid: if they are indeed G.penetrans, they are said to be possibly toxic...but like it was said before me, its undetermined for sure.... I would stick to bruising Gymns...really cool find tho!!

I don't mind being ogled, ridiculed, made to feel minuscule.
If you consider the source, it's kinda pitiful
The only thing you really know about me is.....That's all you'll ever know!!!!
