thinking about moving to north cali / oregon
    #19105776 - 11/08/13 01:48 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Does anyone live out that way and know how accepting/ liberal it is?

I just really want to work a job and grow some mushies at home. I hate how conservative and Christian the retard Midwest is. You can't even be a bisexual here without becoming some sort of pariah.

are you serious? I live in Texas and there's queers everywhere and nobody gives a shit. hell, the mayor of Houston, where I live, is a lesbian.

california is expensive. I wouldn't live there unless I had a damn good reason. Like if I was working in the technology or film industry

San Fran is nice, Oregon is cool too. Keep heading north to the PNW and Seattle (land of legal weed). :goodluck:

I'm going to guess by the fact that you said queers that Texas is everything its imagined to be by the north.

I spent about half of my life in lower NorCal, and I've been trying to make my way back there ever since I was forced to leave in 2007.  I actually did get to live there again for a while but failed miserably because I wasn't even 20 yet and couldn't make enough money for myself.  I was being charged unreasonable prices to sleep on a fucking couch thought, but that's my fault.  I hear Oregon is expensive too but better than Cali.  I'm open to CO and WA as well these days of course, and would likely choose them over Cali right now.

Seems like everyone and their brother is moving to CO right now now that I think about it.

Depends on what town you live in. College towns in the coastal side of things tend to be very liberal. Many more rural parts of these states are very conservative, especially when you get more inland. Liberal hot spots would include-Santa Cruz, The SF Bay area, Arcata, Ashland, Eugene, and Portland.

I looked at Eugene Oregon earlier and it seemed pretty cool and full of old hippies

Oh one inland exception would be Tahoe, I guess Chico as well.

I need to live close enough to the urbans to work. I'm excited at the prospect of living away from the bs I was raised around. You wouldn't believe how anti everything it is in the Midwest. You can't do yoga or eat a goddamn salad without being some weirdo.

i spent some time all over oregon, lived in portland for a while. down to san fran on the road in our converted school bus with my then girlfriend and all kinds of kats we picked up along the way.  good times.  arcata was one of my favorite spots.  i spent a good amount of time there.  that and up in the mountains along the Klamath River in Siskiyou County.  Near Yreka.  had some friends up there.  man that was the sticks!!!!  so remote!

ahhhhh, memories.

Im from the bay area and have lived in/explored a lot of northern cali/southern Oregon region. I will pretty much echo what others have said, Santa Cruz, SF, Berkeley, Chico, Arcata (I personally love all of Humboldt and Mendocino County), Crescent City, Grants Pass, Ashland are all hot spots for open minded, accepting individuals, and hippies lol. I would avoid the central valley, stick to the coast. Mount Shasta/Siskiyou County being an exception to that rule.

It's awesome that the Oregon coast seems to be more than just hype then. I just want to meet a bunch or old hippies and go tripping in the mountains. I wish I didn't have to be a professional.

I'm taking business classes so I can maybe run one of the first growerys and dispensaries down there. I would be sooooo happy.

I live near Portland and yeah it's pretty liberal. I've been here 7 years and have lived all over the US (except the midwest) and Portland is pretty unique. Seattle is cool too btw, though Eugene sounds about what you're looking for, OP.

If you really do hate where you are then I say make the move, just do it. So many people complain, complain, complain, but never leave the area they grew up in. I've lived along the east and west coast and wouldnt trade the experiences I've had for anything.

Nice to see people naming there favorite and most liberal spots. I plan on heading outwest too. Have a friend out in san fran who loves it and a friend near seattle who loves it.

I think im goin to grad school in spring, id love to go to grad school out there but its so much more expensive out of state tuition vs in state.
