Unfortunately yes. Most the west coast actually. State parks that is.

Washington state is an outdoor lover's dream, and public demand for outdoor recreation opportunities on state lands continues to grow. However, the state's budget crisis makes it difficult to keep up with this demand. Shrinking revenues makes it impossible for current taxes to maintain existing facilities, let alone develop new ones

To ensure the public may continue to enjoy these recreation lands, the state must shift from relying on tax revenue from the state General Fund to a user-pay approach to pay for recreation. The cost to users is $30 for the annual Discover Pass or $10 for a one-day pass. Transaction and dealer fees may apply.

I see, weird but understandable, here in Ohio we don't have to pay to use State Park services.

It's a motor vehicle pass, so if you can find legal parking outside of the park, you can always bike or boat in.

Yea, it was so bad in california that 2 years ago we had to shut down our massage clinic in arcata when cali started closing all the state parks in humboldt county. Budget concerns and such. KILLED the tourism there... we  had to shutter up and move. Sucked at the time, but, we are happier now.:suckit:

Hell I live 1 mile from a state park here, they just cut a  bunch of Ash trees down that were infested, they are letting anyone that wants it go cut it up and take it for free. Was a lot of people down there today.

Volunteer with WTA twice and get a free yearlong NW Forest Pass good for forest service areas
http://www.wta.org/volunteer/trail-work-parties
Complete 24 hours on state lands(typically 4 days) and you get a discover pass.

Bear in mind that lots of 'shroom hunters take advantage of this, so if you're planning a foray regarding anything other than observing WA's natural beauty, you might get harassed by Law Enforcement Officers. Arrest records will soar this weekend.

Best to book a campsite and have lots of gear. Those that pay on free days are a lot less conspicuous.
