Screw together petri dishes. When will someone invent already??

has anyone thought of this? id really like to invest in some glass petris. however, im really a big fan of no pour method with jars. im sure its been thought of. i googled it and so far all im finding are forums where people ask if they exist and have yet to see anything. im sure if i take a stab at pouring dishes, i wont think of it as such a task. i just like the peace of mind with no pour knowing that, you take one more step involving possible contamination out of the equation.

I've had better dishes and better results just pouring dishes. The no pour thing is a crutch and you don't have broken legs. Just work on your technique. If you're using a SAB chances are most of your contams on a dish are coming from putting tissue or spores onto it and then removing wedges. I had contams on no pour jars too. Don't wave your hands all over around the above surface of the dish. Pouring is rather easy then trying to take a wedge out as proficient as possible.

The last thing I want to do is try and twist on a cap after pouring a dish.

fair enough. i mean, i work in front of a hood. so honestly, its more of a timing thing. usualy, when i cook its a night and i dont do work with any media being grains, or agar, untill the next day. i prep and cook one day, and then do transfers and innoculations the next. same goes for my pasteurizing. anyway, with that, my agar would of cooled and solidified by then. i know i just gotta get the timing right, but, with that, could one microwave a sterilized bottle of agar to liquify it again? that, or throw it in some hot water and the like?

silly idea i know. sometimes you, or at least I, just get ideas that pop into my head that im like, wait, that would make things a bit easier. but i gather in the long run, sometimes, only makes things more complicated. carry on!

Ha well if you have a LFH then you really shouldn't be worrying at all.
You can microwave your agar as long as there's no metal on the thing your pouring from. You can also put it in some boiling water but that takes a long time.

yea, i been meaning to get some of those. they come in smaller sizes yea> those are awefully big. the wide mouth half pints are just too tall, while being at the same time, too small in circumference. id like one of those bout the same circumference as a petri. preferebly fairly shallow as well. ill have to look around. i dont want to big as to waste agar. i gather i can start innoculations of MS and clone tissue in the short half pints, and throw my isolates on something bigger. but damn those look huge!! lol

Those are nice, chron
Agar container dishes
Why not have wide plates? Means more run-out room & inoc power. Fewer dishes. The ones I link above still have just 20-25mL, it's certainly no waste of agar.
