Possible bacteria in mini monotub
    #19102760 - 11/07/13 08:31 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

So long story short spawned 2 quarts each to these mini monotubs. after i finished i noticed a nasty looking piece of grain and sludge stuck to the side of one of my jars. it looked like just one piece was like that. everything smelled ok when they were poured in. also the jars recovered from two seperate shakes during colonization i decided to let them go. about 2 weeks later (rough estimate) gave them a nice once over. there are some metabolite puddles towards the bottom of each tub where the grains were bunched up as they weren't mixed super well. also on one tub a few inches from the puddles there looks like some blackish/brown type sludge kind of like in the jar before i spawned it.
enough talk. here's some pics

probably the biggest puddle of the two tubs

a little ways away are the sludge looking things

opened it up to snap a pic and take a small whiff.
doesn't smell bad. mostly smells of a bit wet coir really but not as prominent as after pasteurization

and last but not least i found this little guy hiding in a corner

The side shots look pretty bad - possible bacteria and yeast - but the overhead shot looks like it's colonising OK...give it a few more days and post again

Lol I wasn't posting that sprout as a fruit. Its cubes B+ I'm thinking its a Milo sprout or something. Not sure exactly where it came from
And with it getting colder and getting towards winter I try to keep my temps stable so it's probably around mid 70s maybe as high as 78 but usually with a drop to low 70s or high 60s at night

So i gave the tubs a little closer inspection when the sides weren't fogged up and i saw a few pins and some hyphal knots going on in both tubs. so i initiated fruiting. I think they'll produce some fruits but definitely not optimal considering they aren't fully colonized.

Would they still be good to eat after being picked and dried?
I just want to make sure before i spend the time and space getting fruits from these/
