I found these a couple days ago and all signs point to them being p. Allenii. Spore print is purpleish brown, faint bluing after I manhandled em. Pics and descriptions match. Habitat same etc. I never knew of their existence untill 2 days ago, so I was hoping someone who knows those little guys could help me out with i d ing them as allenii or tell me if they are not?I can't upload a jpeg so I put a few pics on my profile area, i know its a hassle, but if you could be so kind as to check them out i would very much appreciate it. Cool.thanks, E-tabb

The pictures in your gallery appear to be Hypholoma fasciculare. This can be confirmed by the presence of yellow gills when immature which develop a slightly greenish hue to them before beginning to turn dark purple-brown, and the mentioned purple-brown spore print.
The yellow flesh, caps and stipes and the absence of any bluing whatsoever [you are imagining this] should tell you immediately that these are not Psilocybe allenii.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

While you hunt woodloving Psilocybes, you will likely come to know a few species of Hypholoma rather well. Similarly for Leratiomyces ceres and Tubaria species and the occasional Galerina marginata. They like many of the same places.

By the way, the condescending "you are imagining this"remark was a bit unnessesary.

It's not condescending, it's merely the truth. It happens to most of us at some point or other. It is, however, necessary. You can not learn to identify mushrooms by letting your brain trick you into seeing features which aren't there. It will cause you grief.

He was right though, you were imagining the bluing.
No one likes to be reminded that their senses are not infallible, however knowing that your brain sometimes adds blue staining where none exists can save you from eating a poisonous mushroom.

OP was probably just noticing the green tint in the Hypholomas, I could see how it would seem somewhat blue.

I didn't see the remark as condensending.... We see people on here all the time 'wish' themselves into seeing blue bruising, when there is none. Same with purple spore prints.... Some of them will base their 'eat or no eat' decisions on their 'wish' to be an active species.
What he was saying was simply becareful, we don't want you poisoned...
Welcome to the Shroomery! Stick around, lots to learn and great people to learn from.

I come off like an ass a lot. You should just all picture how silly-looking I am when reading the stuff I say. I bet that would help :P

It can be hard to not come off like an ass when talking about identification, I've had more than one person tell me they don't care about identification when I tried to add something helpful...
