i just finished my first flush of my first attempt at mycology with the pftek and everything went rather well minus three contaminations in incubation and a couple mutants during fruiting altho i don't really consider mutants a negative thing. Anyway's i just dunked and rolled for my second flush and I'm noticing the cakes are giving off and odd sour smell, they look fine and i have them in my FC but I'm worried they've become contaminated somehow and my first flush might have been contaminated aswell without any obvious giveaways (i.e colour/smell). they've only been in the FC for couple hours but everytime i go to mist and fan i notice the smell. also they smelt nice and earthy like mushrooms prier to the second dunk i noticed the sour smell right after taking them out of the second dunk i was just really hoping it wasn't something so i rolled and put them in the FC none the less. thank you for taking the time.

If the fruits look fine, you're all good.

It'd be pretty unusual to lose a cake to bacteria after the first flush at least in normal conditions. Do you have air holes in your FC? If not that might help. You don't want to rely on fanning alone or your cakes are going to be drenched all the time.

there is lots of holes in the FC, the smell didn't start in the FC it started coming from the cakes right after the second dunk.
i still have them in the FC really wondering if i should scrap them or if there's anything else i could do to restore them to normal? anyone else ever had this problem?

Sometimes there'll be a slight smell from bacteria during the dunk but if it's not going away it could be a loss.

which is another good reaso to cut back on the misting for a few days after your first flush n let the cake dry up a bit and take a break before dunking and proceeding to your next flush, if there is bacteria present it shuold just dry up

stopped misting for roughly 24 hrs and the smell is starting to disappear i checked the cakes closely and on the one the smelt the strongest i found dark grey fuzz along the bottom of the cake, did not hesitate to throw that cake away. you guys think the rest of them are fine now? or are they at risk of catching the same thing?

I'll help you bro... Cakes always smell somewhat odd, especially after a dunk... In sure it has something to do with bacteria... Pf cakes from spore syringes are pretty much guaranteed to be bacterial to some degree because the fruit body that the spores came from was fruited in open air... If it doesn't smell sickening, or look/feel mushy just run with it.
Of course, all of that was already answered in this thread 800 days ago though.
